The Misfits
« on: January 15, 2007, 09:23:54 AM »
One of my all-time favorite bands is The Misfits, but what I'm eager to find out is which era of the Misfits do you like the most (if any)?

I got into the Misfits during their Michael Graves era, and that's why his is my favorite. Jerry Only isn't that great a singer, so the current state of the band is not so hot.... I like Graves because he has good diction and carries on that zombie-punk theme very well and he just seems like a really cool guy in his interviews (very well thought-out). Contrary to the seemingly popular opinion - I find Danzig to be a very overrated singer/musician. He's very talented with writing music, but he sounds like a guy with food in his mouth when he sings.

Lemme know what you think!

Hmmm...

The Misfits? They sound vaguely familiar... they have some sorta' skull logo or something, right?

Just kidding. I was a Misfits snob for a long time and wouldn't give Graves a chance. My favorite period for the band is still the later Danzig days, but i tend to think of that and the Graves-era as two seperate bands. If you played Walk Among Us (my fave!) for someone then Famous Monsters... they're usually not going to guess that it's the same band.

Anyway, once i got over my punk rock elitism (oxymoron?) i found that i really liked the new Misfits. Of course by then it was too late to see them with Graves. But i did see Gotham Rd. which was one of his next bands, and i got to meet him and talk a bit after the show. Really cool guy.

I also saw the Misfits a bit later during their Project 1950 phase. Cool concept but horrible album for sure... Only seems to be driving the Misfits into the toilet. The "band" is more like a refuge for retired punk rockers these days. But i have to admit, the show was a lot of fun! And Only made a point of hanging out after the show to sign shit and talk to everybody who come to see 'em. So that was cool...

PS- If you like Graves be sure to pick up his solo album Punk Rock Is Dead... good stuff~

Man, I love the Misfits. I too was a Graves-era initiate (but the best material from that era was culled and turned up on 'Cuts from the Crypt'). Aside from 'Static age' it took me a while to like the Danzig-Misfits stuff, it just sounded too raw at the time. Love it now though.

Yeah, those are ace[/i. I like 'Dr. Phibes Rises Again' and 'Dead Kings Rise' of the new 'fits.

I could never get into the "Resurrected" Misfits at all. Danzig does have some serious "short-mans" disease though.

I don't know... i think they were a little too outrageous. Truly, truly, truly outrageous.

Get Walk Among Us for a taste of old school 'fits or American Psycho if Graves is your thing. Of course, there are collections and whatever... but i've never been a fan of "greatest hits" albums. And, as far as i know, they never mix Graves-era with Danzig-era songs on the same CD. Which further kinda' makes my point that they really are like two different bands~
