Have you ever wondered why Microprose started putting the "Sid Meier's Name of Game Here" title on their games? Well, here's a quote from Kotaku:

A few years later, as the company continued to grow—”It took three years to get to $3 million,” said Stealey—someone suggested that they make a game about pirates. Meier liked the idea, and he recalls one particularly important conversation with Stealey:

“Bill said, ‘When’s my next flight simulator coming out?’ And I said, ‘I’m not doing a flight simulator; I’m doing a pirates game.’ He said, ‘Well that’s crazy, ‘cause people want your next flight simulator... Wait a minute. Put your name on it. Maybe if they liked your flight simulator games, they’ll recognize the name and buy this crazy pirates thing.’”

Stealey has a different take: "We were at dinner at a Software Publishers Association meeting, and [actor] Robin Williams was there. And he kept us in stitches for two hours. And he turns to me and says 'Bill, you should put Sid's name on a couple of these boxes, and promote him as the star.' And that's how Sid's name got on Pirates, and Civilization."

Geez. He's still making me sad.

I like Nintendo, and I like Miyamoto. But this really ticks me off. I don't know why he felt that he needed to alienate an entire subsection of gamers by calling them pathetic. There's absolutely nothing wrong with casual gamers. How someone games does not make it OK to say, "You know what? You're pathetic. Go watch a movie if you don't want to be challenged." For a long time, I played games because I enjoyed the stories they presented me, not the challenge involved. Games were(and are) a way for me to relax. I get that you're huge in the world, Miyamoto, but who the hell are you to tell anyone that they're gaming wrong?

Yeah, calling them pathetic is probably a bit much, but I don't think that was his point. I think he's saying that he's tired of catering to that market and he's glad the mobile market came along to fill that niche in so that he can focus on making games for core gamers again. He seems to see casual games as an entry point, and the people who never explore beyond the "Candy Crush Saga" thing are missing out on what gaming's all about.

It's kind of a slight on Casual gamers, but I think the message he's trying to convey is "Nintendo is back! We're gonna start making games for core gamers again!" which is a welcome message for those who think Nintendo's been making tepid games ever since the Wii came out.

Nintendo is releasing DLC for Mario Kart 8 that will grant 2 new cups with 4 courses each and add content from Zelda, F-Zero and Animal Crossing.

From what I understand, he gave that statement in English, and he's an old guy. He speaks English pretty well.

My 3DS broke a while ago. I'm planning on upgrading to an XL, because I want to play Smash on the biggest screen I can, and I can't see myself getting a WiiU JUST for Smash. 3DS seems a million times more convenient.

Yes, it's a real ad. Why is it a real ad? Because due to an agreement between Sony and Activision, Microsoft isn't allowed to advertise Destiny for the XB1 in some markets. So Microsoft UK is getting around that by diversifying into perfume.

Given the lack of a certain platform, that's going to throw a wrench into the next season of BOILr.

Yeah, nevermind. I saw a Sony press announcement, so they ignored the PC option.  Still coming to Steam on November 4.
