Irrational Games (BioShock) shutting down: http://www.irrationalgames.com/

At least they're shutting down in order to focus on a new worthwhile goal.

Irrational Games (BioShock) shutting down: http://www.irrationalgames.com/

At least they're shutting down in order to focus on a new worthwhile goal.

His Majesty, Ken Lavine, couldn't suppress his grandiose sense of self worth to allow someone else below him at Irrational to take the helm. Instead he decided to dissolve one of the most creative and talented group of developers in the gaming industry.

I think Ken is an extremely talented person, but, the act of dissolving Irrational Games implies that he thinks the rest of the team is unworthy of the company without him. He stated he wanted to do smaller more narrative driven experiences but he fails to say why he needed to dissolve the company rather then stepping down.

Could you imagine if Cormac dissolved ID Software to work on Oculus?

Twitch Plays Pokemon is one of the dumbest, most brilliant things I've ever seen. Ridiculous experiment that's having hilarious results. Firstly, it's giving Twitch problems with their chat servers. They put TPP on it's OWN server, but it's still causing issues in their chat system, just because of how much traffic it's causing. Secondly, it's spawning a religion around the Helix Fossil and  Bird Jesus(Pidgeot). It's hilarious to watch, even if it's only possible to take it for a short amount of time.

For those who don't know, Twitch Plays Pokemon is a stream of Pokemon Red where the chat controls the game. By typing the commands into the chat, they get inputted into the game via a script that the the person who started it all came up with. The results are damned hilarious, and at this point usually has anywhere between 60 and 100 thousand viewers. The made it through the Safari Zone, which is where I thought they'd be completely SOL, and they just caught Zapdos. It's an impressive achievement.

Free copy of Titanfall bundled with new Xbox One. Same price of $499. I imagine that will move quite a lot of units, though I'm not quite sure it'll be enough to catch up with sony.

If it doesn't Microsoft will be up shit creek without a paddle.

They've earned it.

Anyone here think PS4 or XB1 are a substantial step up?  I've been comparing images of games release on next gen and current gen consoles, and for my money both next gens are really disappointing.  They're fine and all, but really don't seem like much of an improvement.

That's what happens.  Early generation games are only a mild step up until the developers know the power of the consoles.  We'll probably only see the real power at the end of the year, when they've had some real time to push the systems to their limits.

Not to mention we really haven't had many AAA titles exclusive to the platforms yet.

Also, graphics are starting to get to the point where improvements yield diminishing returns.  With increased processing power bigger advancements are going to be made in scope and scale of games.  More objects on screen, more complex AI, more content generated in real time, things that aren't readily apparent in screen shots.

Though those improvements will be minimal on consoles.  The real improvements will be seen on the PC :)

Twitch Plays Pokemon will go down as a historical event in gaming lore.

Capcom just released "Resident Evil 4 / Biohazard 4" on Steam, an overhaul of the original game. I've never played it, but I love survival horror shooters.

Is this worth getting?

I remember 4 being enjoyable. It's not amazing or anything, but it's less painful than 5.

Resident Evil 4 was a big turning point in the series. They ditched the "Human Tank" style controls and turned it into something less puzzly, and more action friendly. The purists insist that it was a big mistake, but most people agree that it was just the shot in the arm that the series needed. (Enough that it became one of the few M-Rated games to actually do really well as a Nintendo exclusive when it was released.)

Personally, I think it's a solid entry into the series. There are some pretty awesome boss battles and creepy moments. There's an escort mission element to things with a girl who you have to keep safe at various points in the game, but most of the time you can make her hide in a dumpster or something while you take care of business, so it's not too annoying.

I personally HATED Resident Evil 4. I'm not a fan of the controls at all. Also, Ashley's a skank.

What did you play it on?  I remember the controls working pretty well on the wii.
