Nice.  Twilight Zone is probably my all time favourite pinball games.  Still, video pinball will never be as good as the real deal, but it still looks fun.

The MMO Secret World, the conspiracy-laden modern RPG, is going subscription-less! It's not free to play; you'll still need to buy a copy of the game, but after that, you're good to go. You can still subscribe to get some bennies, but otherwise it's the Guild Wars model.

Two bits of news for today:

THQ, much to the surprise of no one, filed for bankruptcy today. Darklanders II severely underperformed sales-wise and the company took an absolute bath with their uDraw tablets which can now be found for $10 at some retailers.

Secondly, did you pick up War Z yesterday when Steam offered it for sale? Well, it's gone now. There's a huge maelstrom of conversations about it on Steam and elsewhere as to the reasons why, but it's still gone.

Here's a fascinating interview with Hammerpoint about the whole War Z thing where the guy pretty much says, "We said 'up to' 100 players! 50 is less than 100. We're sorry so many people misinterpreted what we said!" Seriously, read it. It's jaw-dropping stuff. :^)

!!!!  New program released that lets you play Grim Fandango on modern PCs or Mac!!!!

Now who wants to let me borrow their copy?  I've been dying to play it but compatibility issues made it seem like a lost hope.

War Z pulled from Steam amid allegations of fraud

http://www.gameranx.com/updates/id/11570/article/the-war-z-pulled-from-steam-amid-allegations-of-fraud/

Quote
The War Z has been pulled from Steam by Valve, in the wake of their investigation into allegations of fraud by the game's developers Hammerpoint Interactive.

Hundreds, if not thousands of reports were made by customers who complained that the developer had mislead them when it launched an incomplete game that boasted features which had yet to be implemented within the game.

Late last night, we reported that the War Z's developers had made attempts to conceal the game's problems by banning anyone who complained on the official Steam forums about the problems they were having. Many users vocalized their dissatisfaction with the fact that the studio had added a lengthy 4-hour respawn timer and had begun to charge players to respawn their characters upon their deaths.

A bizarre interview on GameSpy also went up last night with the game's lead producer, Sergei Titov, who appeared unsympathetic to the problems his customers were facing. He seemed to believe that lying to his customers was not only acceptable, but an action to be praised.

"I can assure you that based on what we're seeing and number of people who post bad comments are small percentage," he said in response to one of the many hard questions about the game's problems. He also placed the responsibility of refunding players on Steam.

The game's store page remains online on Steam, but the link to purchase the game has been removed. Valve has since issued a statement about the retraction of the game and is offering full refunds to anyone who purchased the game:

Valve: From time to time a mistake can be made and one was made by prematurely issuing a copy of War Z for sale via Steam. We apologize for this and have temporary removed the sale offering of the title until we have time to work with the developer and have confidence in a new build. Those who purchased the game and wish to continue playing it via Steam may do so. Those who purchased the title via Steam and are unhappy with what they received may seek a refund by creating a ticket at our support site here: https://support.steampowered.com/newticket.php

Again, we apologize any inconvenience.

Wow, now there's a developer truly acting like a drug pusher.  How's that 4 hour wait feel?  Oh, you want to keep playing right after you die, well pay up sucker.

Wow, I played the crap out of the few good versions of STTNG that people have made for Visual Pinball, but no one was ever able to get the cannons to fire reliably.  This looks pretty good, wonder how good the physics engine is, hate pinball games where the ball acts like it's made of plastic.

So far Pinball Arcade is the most accurate one with real pinball tables, though it is flawed. They do release patches whenever a new pack is released, though.

So Shigesato Itoi, Nintendo Big-Wig and Earthbound helmer has been talking about "repubication" of Earthbound and "making it playable." Speculation is that Earthbound might see a 3DS rerelease or at least e-shop release of one or more of the "Mother" series (What Earthbound was called in Japan). He also gave a shout-out to starmen.net (The American Earthbound fan community) recently, thanking them and talking about how he's heard "enjoyable rumors." It's not much, but it's more than Earthbound fans have had to go on for the last decade or so.

More Good News! Also, they finally found a new publisher for the XBOX 360 versions of the tables, since the previous one went bankrupt.

Very cool. I played that table at a place in PA once.  And I downloaded the Star Trek table. I like it a lot. Feels pretty good to me. Does it feel floaty to others?

So, remember a few months ago when Star Wars The Old Republic became free to play? According to Bioware the number of people playing are way up and EA is pretty happy with the way things are going. So it looks like SWTOR is one of the success stories there.

Oh, and there's an expansion going out in Spring. It's $19.99 if you preorder by the 7th and $9.99 for subscribers who preorder by that date.
