Hmm. Wonder if I could make a magic-using villain and style him after The Master...

Quote
Bioware’s co-founders recently announced their departure from the video game industry.  After a long run of hit titles with the Mass Effect and Dragon Age franchises, Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk pointed to personal reasons as to how the two came to the decision.  Although recently, an ex-Bioware founder and creator of Baldur’s Gate explained that he spoke with Zeschuk prior to the departure and fan negativity played a huge role in his decision.

“The last time I met up with Greg, I felt his exhaustion,” Trent Oster revealed in a recent interview.  ”I think the Mass Effect 3 fan reaction and the Old Republic fans negativity was just too much… You have to love games and you put your heart into them to create them.  To have the fans creating petitions against the work is pretty hard to take, especially when you’ve spent the last few years crunching overtime to try and ship a game.  It can be hard to shut off the overwhelming negativity the internet spews forth, especially when it has your name or the name of your company in it.”

The recent departure of the Bioware executives came as a shock to many in the gaming industry, but Bioware will indeed live on as an EA company, which the developer outlined in a recent statement.  The company outlined more from the Mass Effect franchise, and the announcement of Dragon Age III.

Ray Muzyka responded to the comments in the interview by issuing some clarification.  ”I respect/revere fans, because they speak with deep, honest passion.  Journalists speculating on ill-founded rumors should reassess approach.”  While he didn’t come right out and say it, it doesn’t look like Muzyka agrees with the speculation that the interview with Oster generated.

Looks like one of the creators of Wizardry and one of the creators of Doom are trying to kick start an "Old School RPG."

So Project Eternity, the old school Bauldur's Gate esque RPG Kickstarter from Obsidian, is almost over with 10 hours left to go. It long ago reached its first goal and has since reached many stretch goals that add a lot of content to the game, like new companions and races and a new faction along with player owned houses, Mac and Linux versions and a few different languages.

As I type it's at 3,491,000. At 3,500,000 they add another big city to the scheduled 1 (big like the city of Bauldur's Gate). It looks like the goal will be made, but there's still time to throw in if you're interested. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/obsidian/project-eternity

Oh and it's now the most funded game on Kickstarter.

EDIT: Never mind. They reached 3,500,000 like ten minutes later. Hurray!  Should be a fun game.

Aw. $14,000 short of forcing Chris Avellone to play Arcanum. Shoot.

(I was an early backer of Project Eternity, BTW.)

Well, earlier this year, Nintendo Power announced that it was ended. Today, the Official Playstation Magazine announced the the Holiday 2012 issue would be their last as well.

For those curious, yes the Official Xbox Magazine is still around.

So...

The Japanese made a porno out of Lollipop Chainsaw.

Okay, technically it's a cosplay porno where she's just dressing in the same costumes as used in Chainsaw, but that's close enough. Plus I'm pretty sure most porn films don't have the budget to include a talking decapitated head.

So, Lego Lord of the Rings came out today...

...and promptly got recalled.

See, on the 360 version many, many copies got printed with a "Demo Disc" label on them. The full game seems to be there, but the actual printing on the disc is wrong.

That's not the only issue for games released today. Call of Duty Black Ops II? It turns out that the second DVD included with the retail copies doesn't actually have Bops II on it.  It's got Mass Effect II on it.  Whoops.

(And note, Activision doesn't make Mass Effect, so that's an even bigger "whoops.")

Bioware responds to the blunder:

Quote from: Bioware
"Rumor has it that about a thousand customers who purchased Call of Duty: Black Ops II for PC today were also treated to a surprise copy of Mass Effect 2. If you were one of the affected, chances are you thought it was a mistake, but we prefer to think that it was an omen, and when the universe talks, you should listen.

If the universe thinks that you should be playing Mass Effect right now, who are we to argue? In fact, we want to help! The first fifty fans affected by this phenomenon to send us a picture holding their special disc 2 will receive a code for a FREE PC copy of Mass Effect Trilogy.

Remember, in order to qualify, YOU must be in the picture, and disc 2 of your Call of Duty: Black Ops II must be visible. Got it? Then send your photo to community@bioware.com and you could be playing your very own Mass Effect Trilogy in time for the weekend!"

Hey, I would much rather play ME2 any day. Of course, I'm not getting BOps II, anyway.

Same here.  It's one of the best games of the generation.
