Released today: Magika : Vietnam.

No, really.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/42918/

This may be one of the strangest DLC packs to ever get released.

Apparently Nintendo's next console will be officially announced at E3 this year: http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2011/04/14/new-nintendo-console-at-e3.aspx

I can't wait to see what they have come up with.  I really like my Wii because it is the only one of the consoles that i feel offers something that you can't get on a good PC.

I wonder if this means Sony and Microsoft will be announcing anything before the end of the year.

I'll guess that, if this rumor is true, it will be a standard console that won't support Wii games or controls. Since Nintendo owns the motion-control niche, they could support the Wii until kingdom come and still make money. It would be pretty cool if they continued to make games for the Wii actually built with its unique controls in mind, instead of shoehorning motion controls into the games they were already developing.

If Nintendo wants to capture the hardcore market, they'll have to step up their game and make this console as powerful as the 360 and PS3, plain and simple, if they want multi-platform titles. Also decent online play - the internet's been around for twenty years, guys, get with the program. And a hard drive would be nice.

If they can get the hardware, they would still need the titles to back them up. It won't be enough to just get what everyone else already has (though it will steal some of the sales away from Sony and MS, but ultimately that's a drop in the bucket). Exclusives are Nintendo's big strengths, so they'll probably play it safe since anything with the word "Mario" in the title is guaranteed to sell quicker than chocolate cupcakes baked by Jesus himself. But, I think, this is an opportunity to really push some innovative gameplay, to update some of their tired franchises for the new generation.

I just hope that Nintendo realizes that HD graphics are not the only thing that the PS3 and 360 have going for them.

Well the 3DS is a sign that they finally get the whole online thing. Once friend codes have been exchanged, I can see whta my brothers and friends are playing real-time (As long as we're both in range of Wi-Fi) and challenge to games real-time and all the other stuff that the big systems do. It SEEMS like a system update would be all it would take for the Wii to get those same capabilities, but what do I know? :^)

Obviously none of the reports yet are official, but the rumours seem to say that it will be backwards compatible, and weirdly that the control might be touchscreen based? I'm not sure I understand why they'd do that.

Of course there were tons of reports that the Wii was going to be mostly helmet based, so...

Seems like Nintendo usually has a better lock on their info than other companies, and web sites just scatter gun predict what they're going to do and when a few things hit the mark they claim "Insider Info!"

Hmm. Touchscreen could be interesting, and again it would be something that Nintendo has but its competitors don't. And considering that all those iPod/iPhone games are freaking ridiculously popular, it could be another draw for the more casual player of video games. But would it be possible to control a game on a touchscreen while looking at the action on-screen? I don't think I'm that coordinated.

It would be awesome if the touchscreen acted like a custom controller for every game, but without physical feedback I could see it being frustrating.

But a front-mounted camera? What purpose could that possible serve (in a gaming context)?

Also, I could see these controllers being damned expensive, if they've got all the special tech inside them that Nintendo shoved in their DSi.

Nintendo's New Console is Official.

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/109522-Nintendo-Officially-Confirms-New-Console-for-2012

No new information, but it will be playable at this year's E3. Hooray!

In the rumors department, it will be more powerful than the 360 and the PS3, the touchscreen on the controller will be capable of simulating textures (meaning it could feel rugged, smooth, soft, bumpy, etc; called "haptic technology"), and it will have toaster slots large enough to toast bagels (I made one of those up myself).

Of course, I remember distinctly the rumors that the Wii (at the time code-named "Revolution", which is a much awesome-r sounding name) would include a 3D projector the size of a cell phone capable of turning a whole room into a holodeck. I haven't been this excited for E3 since... well, since the Wii was about to be announced.

Not surprising that the Wii successor will be powerful, with the exception of this generation, Nintendo has always been pretty high on the technology level.  N64 and Gamecube both putting out some of the best graphics of their generation.
