Where are the dirty riffs?
« on: September 12, 2009, 06:59:03 AM »
I was just wondering why all the riffs are PG13.  i remember all the times crow was cut off in the middle of some dirty (and hilarious) statement on MST3k. Now that it's not on broadcast tv, no censoring necessary.  or it's just not your style?

I think it's just a style thing mostly.

However, if you want some riffs which go beyond PG-13 there's one or two in the iRiff section.  :)

Well, when you're riffing a movie like that, why not go for broke?

Honestly, I can't see Mike throwing out F-bombs.

I know I've said this before, but the censoring bugs me. It's usually Bill who gets beeped. I just don't understand.

To be honest, I'm noticing it a lot MORE in the riffs lately... I'd like it if they actually pulled it back a notch again. One of the things I've always liked about MST3K/Rifftrax is that they're funny WITHOUT being dirty.

Personally, one of the biggest appeal factors for MST3K was that it was(at least most of the time) a family-oriented show. Therefore I think the riffs should actually be pretty clean. I know it's hard to believe but it's possible to be funny and clean.

Well, I'm totally there when you're talking about a PG or PG-13 movie, but I think the guys should feel free to let loose a bit if the movie they're riffing happens to be R-rated. The riff should fit the rating of the movie.

I'll concede to that. I just wish there were fewer sexual innuendos for PG rated movies.

The ideal would be a good mix of censored and uncensored.  Movie ratings do seem like an apt guideline for this.

Rifftrax isn't trying to market to kids. I don't ever want them to water down their humor.

I understand, but i'm not a kid and I think rifftrax could benefit from less sexual innuendos. I don't think that necessarily means watering down the humor... it just means... fewer sexual innuendos. They just don't make me laugh,  but they do make me feel uncomfortable.
