Cocktail: Thoughts?
« on: August 30, 2006, 04:28:56 AM »

I've just seen the Rifftrax version of Cocktail, and I thought it was pretty damn good.  Mike gives Cruise both barrels, especially on the subject of Scientology.  Perhaps the line of the movie is near the start where Cruise is trying to chase down the Greyhound to New York and Mike explains "Look, he's trying to flag down Katie Holmes' school bus..."  I think the track gets a little sparse towards the end of the movie, however, and though I'd say it was better than the Fifth Element, it wasn't quite the equal of STV and Road House.

How about everyone else?

Definately not as good as Road House or Star Trek but it was pretty funny, better than 5th Element.

Awesome.

Star Trek V aside (as you can't really compare a double team against a solo venture fairly), I'd definitely say it was at least on par with Road House, if not better. Most certainly offsets the embarassment of owning a copy of Cocktail, and then some. :D

I don't know about that.  The DVD is now staring at me like a filthy one night stand.

DVD: "But you wanted it sooo bad last night."

Me: "Yeah, I've had you.  Can you leave now?"

 ;D

...Just bury it in the back of your closet, like I do with my one night stands...

Yep, I liked it. I just finished watching it and I thought it was pretty close to being as good as Road House. I really think Mike is comfortable with the cheesy 80's movies. Keep up the good work RiffTrax!

Edit:

and, oh yeah...it was "COCKTASTIC!"  ;)

My rifftrax DVD's are being kept separate from the rest, under the dog food, but i might move them to the basement, behind the water softener.  Under a blanket.  and a pile of bricks.

Highlights:

"Just think, somewhere out there my future wife's gettin' out of recess right now."

"I just KNOW I have an STD!  All right!"

"My tires would be squealing out the the parking lot of this place right about now."

"Wow, getting beat up by a sculpter...."

Best moment of subtlety: Cruise in sunglasses at night (!) lying around outside where Elizabeth Shue works, acting all blind and stuff.  Mike, very softly:  "Oh my God."

I thought this track had the best use of DisembAudio so far.  You didn't hear him except once, and then it was very late in the movie and totally unexpected, so it very much worked.

What made me laugh the most, though, was the thought of Mike crouching down next to a table full of divorcees in a Friday's, flair firmly in place, all, "Can I get you ladies some Jack Daniels Flamin' Madness Tater Appetizers"?

I can't believe you think Mike is capable of that kind of humor. I can't believe you even WANT him to be. You're talking about one of the guys, God bless them, who used to boo loudly on MST3K every time a woman or child was abused. If cruel and insensitive is your bag, you're in the wrong place.

And your quoting Mel Brooks in such a context is probably one of the few things in this world that could gross him out.

Considering this is a board with a predominantly American membership, you're not going to make any headway with your insistence that there should have been a WTC joke. I was actually dreading one, and was kind of relieved that there wasn't.

And on that note - please don't spill your disgruntlement into other threads just because yours on the subject was locked, as all you'll succeed in doing is making the mods lock other topics as well.

I put this one just behind Roadhouse for me. Maybe I like this one and Roadhouse because I never saw them before. I don't know. But the line that had me rolling the most was the Gina Gershon sex scene and Mike tells Tom to get loaded because of the unpleasant tasks ahead of him.

Did anybody find its strange that Mike mentioned that Kelly Lynch for being in Road House. You Know with saying stuff about Dalton. But he really didnt say much about Laurence Luckinbill as Sybok in Star Trek V. Overall it was a very funny commentary. I would put up there with Road House and Star Trek V.
