My thought is that people think lemons are "too sour" and they want something "sweeter" with beer.

Yeah, I can see that re: Blue Moon. They both have the nice coriander thing.  Last time I had Hoegaarden was in London, actually.

Pet peeve though--I fucking cannot STAND it when bars put ORANGES in a weissbier or a belgian style. It's LEMONS that go in there, people. LEMONS.  The yellow one.

I don't have any really strong associations with beer and memories like that. In college I drank Keystone (!) and Busch Light (eghhh), but can't for the life of me remember anything...wonder why...hm...

Personally, I can't stand it when they put anything in my beer. If a beer can't taste good without some sort of post-hoc additive, then it isn't worth my time. If it must have an orange or lemon, then the brewer has something to hide.

I don't even like it when they put my beer in a glass.  Putting fruit in my beer is disgusting.

If they made the beer right, they shouldn't need lemon to mask or enhance.  It's just parsley on a plate or a cherry in your Coke.

I think he means, you could put lemon juice during the boiling/cooking step, but it would be a muted citrus and not a fresh, bright flavour and aroma that you get by putting in a slice of lemon in your Hefeweizen beer.    The downside of the acidity is that it tends to kill the head.

It really comes down to taste.  Personally, I dont add the lemon, but there is nothing wrong if you do.

No, that's not what I meant.

I've done some homebrewing too.  I'm saying if you make good beer you shouldn't have to squeeze lemon juice into your beer.
It's beer not a cocktail.  You can put juice in your beer if you want, or you can buy better beer.

I may of came off as an asshole here, and for that I'm sorry.

I LOVE beer.  Plus I worked full-time in a college town for a liquor store for 6 years, and I have tried every beer we had.  Also, we have made our own beers, and there are two really good micro-breweries in town that spoiled me for good.

So in short....I am a beer snob.
