The Beer Thread
« on: January 12, 2007, 09:03:48 PM »
I think it is pretty safe to say that most of the posters on this board are fans of a good beer. I also know that Mike and Co. enjoy a cold one every now and then. So I wanted to make a topic that brought all of us together to post our favorite beers.
this topic was most definitely inspired by this topic http://www.rifftrax.com/smf/index.php?topic=1503.0
and this topic http://www.rifftrax.com/smf/index.php?topic=1521.0

What I am hoping is that people will find some new Beers that they didn't know about and others will be compelled to try some they may never have wanted to before.

So to start it off there really is no ground rules to this other than the name of the beer and why you like it.

Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper for me. :^) Not a drinking man. Have a mild phobia towards drugs and alcohol. The result of one too many "Just Say No" propaganda films in the '80s. I'm probably better off or something. :^)

Wow so this topic has gotten off to a horrible start! Seriously though I didn't expect everyone on here to like beer.....

Dr. Pepper is my soda of choice. It's the taste of a new generation.

I have tried many beers, and I think I'm settled on dark ales as my favorites. There's a local eatery/microbrewery called Humperdinck's that has a nice beer called "Buttface Amber" ale (as in Rams, you sicko) that really hits the spot.

However, nothing can compare to a Guiness Draught right off the tap. That's liquid heaven for me.

In fact, I've already had 3 pints in the last 2 hours. I'm feelin' mighty good right now.  ;D

now im usually stationed in san antonio, and like i have mentioned already i dont like beer, but they have this place called the flying suacer, there are apperently a few them around the states, they have about 300 different beers to choose from.  again i dont like beer, but its still a pretty fun place to go and hang with some friends, they do have some ciders which are fun.  Last time i went i was the DD for obvious reasons, but they have creamy root beer on tap that kicked major ass. lol

heres their site.

Seconded. Also recommended:

Golden Monkey Tripel Ale by Victory, Pennsylvania
Ebulum Elderberry Black Ale by Williams Bros, Scotland
Pater Brown Abbey Ale by Corsendonk, Belgium

To be continued...

P.S. Lagers suck.

There's a brewery over here in the U.K., Wytchwood, who do a damn fine array of beers (that's beer, mind; none of that  weak-arse lager nonsense). Hobgoblin is a personal favourite though their Xmas-themed 'Bah Humbug!' is  tasty.

the official state beer = michelob golden light
commonly know around these parts as "Minnesota light" - no lie

That stuff is still only available in limited markets... we can't get it in St. Louis, but when I travel to Decatur, Illinois I can get it there...

There are definitely some lagers that I like, Augsburger is a damn fine beer.  I tend to buy from the local micro breweries in Wisconsin (and there's certainly no shortage of them):  Gray's Honey Ale, Spotted Cow, Berghoff, Capitol Amber.  But more globally, I like Grolsch, Harp, Anchor Bay Steam.  I guess I tend to gravitate towards these types of lighter-bodied beers, but I've been known to put back a guiness or two on occasion.

Berghoff is a pretty good Wisconsin beer.  Have you tried the locals out of Point or the Lakefront stuff from Milwaukee?

Oh, and I wouldn't recommend very highly the "City Lager" out of the ex-Heileman brewery in LaCrosse.  You can imagine what the slang term for it is.

I've never really liked the stuff out of Point, but Riverwest Stein from Lakefront is superb.  Good call.
