What Movies Are Too Awful To Riff?
« on: August 16, 2009, 08:09:56 PM »
So I was just over in the Suggest-A-Trax forum posting Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (the 1978 movie starring The Bee Gees), when I was reminded of another clunker from  the same year: Sextette, a 70s sex comedy starring the then-84-year-old Mae West doing the same "sex kitten" routine she'd done forty years before opposite W.C. Fields.

And I thought of suggesting it. And then I thought... you know, maybe there are some movies just too awful to riff. I mean, movies so bad, that are such a mess, that even an attempt at riffing it would just turn into a mess. I think of all the riffs I've seen, The Room got the closest to this. But can you all think of any movies that are so bad they're unriffable?

As a fan of Nostalgia Critic, probably Moonwalker looks like it's too bad and weird to riff.

I think any unfunny comedy, like say, The Love Guru, is pretty hard to poke fun at.
Being a genocidal maniac is not one of my turn ons.

Is it weird to hear the Safety Dance in my head watching Game of Thrones?

After having watched Catalina Caper episode the other day, I disagree.

Well, the MST3K guys themselves said it themsselves that they didn't feel altogether confident in riffing bad comedies based on their Catalina Caper experience.

Granted, The Love Guru doesn't have Little Richard stoned off his gourd.

While I've never seen it, The Hottie and the Nottie seems like a movie so bad no one should be subjected to it, even with riffs.

Or creepy girl.
I think Catalina Caper had enough non-comedy portions to make for good riffing.

They got a lot of milage out of Creepy Girl. And the investigator "comic releif" moments.
