Eh. For my money, I'd be delighted if they just gave Bruce Timm and Paul Dini a dumptruck full of money, and told them to show up in two years with a finished Justice League animated movie.
In a way, DC is preparing something like that. I wish I knew if Timm and Dini were involved and I hope the projects will be better than the Superman OAV with Brainiac, but DC is producing original movies on The Death of Superman storyline and on Darwyn Cooke's DC: The New Frontier, a different look at the Silver Age heroes. With any luck, they'll be a step above the recent Marvel releases and give them the incentive to improve their animation.
I recall that. If I remember correctly, they won't be in the style of the animated series. Aren't they doing a Teen Titans one based on The Judas Contract?
At ANY rate, it STILL beats ripping off using Bruce Timm's excellent Superman: TAS designs to sell the ATROCIOUS Brainiac Attacks.
With Wings guy and Dela Delaney back in the voice acting, too. Should have known better than to trust the people responsible for The Batman.
Still, even though that entry was a disappointment, I would still like to see more animated superhero adaptations (preferably Timm/Dini based, of course) getting into theaters.
Honestly, I'm still not convinced on the whole live-action superhero thing. Sure, there have been some decent ones lately, but not a lot that I don't think could have been better pulled off with a cartoon, a format that really allows the expressionism of better comics to come forward. The best comic book movie of all time is still Mask of the Phantasm.
