Enh.  The trailer's alright.  I liked Batman: Dead End, but the things he's put together since seem a little too amateurish.

Eh. For my money, I'd be delighted if they just gave Bruce Timm and Paul Dini a dumptruck full of money, and told them to show up in two years with a finished Justice League animated movie.

In a way, DC is preparing something like that.  I wish I knew if Timm and Dini were involved and I hope the projects will be better than the Superman OAV with Brainiac, but DC is producing original movies on The Death of Superman storyline and on Darwyn Cooke's DC: The New Frontier, a different look at the Silver Age heroes.  With any luck, they'll be a step above the recent Marvel releases and give them the incentive to improve their animation.

I recall that. If I remember correctly, they won't be in the style of the animated series. Aren't they doing a Teen Titans one based on The Judas Contract?

At ANY rate, it STILL beats ripping off using Bruce Timm's excellent Superman: TAS designs to sell the ATROCIOUS Brainiac Attacks.

With Wings guy and Dela Delaney back in the voice acting, too. Should have known better than to trust the people responsible for The Batman.

Still, even though that entry was a disappointment, I would still like to see more animated superhero adaptations (preferably Timm/Dini based, of course) getting into theaters.

Honestly, I'm still not convinced on the whole live-action superhero thing. Sure, there have been some decent ones lately, but not a lot that I don't think could have been better pulled off with a cartoon, a format that really allows the expressionism of better comics to come forward. The best comic book movie of all time is still Mask of the Phantasm.

Have you seen Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker (the UNCUT version)?

No, though I own the cut version. As much as I enjoy the other Timm projects, though, the original B:TAS will always be the best to me. It's too bad only Phantasm was any good, out of the movies that came directly out of it.

I won't try to convince you. Just rent it.

There's only like thirty seconds that have changed, right? I knew what that part was supposed to be when watching it, so I think I got the full effect of the movie pretty well. I just don't care for the Beyond universe as much, and the flashback stuff was a. New Batman Adventures, and b. not that fun.

The edited version actually has a LOT of cuts:

p.s. The flashback sequence, where MANY of the cuts take place, is not intended to be fun. In its uncensored form, it's the most chilling thing I've seen in the entire DC animated universe.

Ok, by 'fun' I meant fun in the Batman sense, which includes DKR and what have you. It just seemed a little forced, as though they were trying to write someone else's character, for some reason.

But yeah, I read that comparison a while ago, but I'd forgotten most of the cuts. Damn, I suspected my cut copy was worthless, but now I'm pretty well certain. Oh, well.

Like I said, give it a rental and see if you like it. The edited version robs the movie of much of its impact.

My copy of BB:TRoTJ  list it at 76 minutes.  According to Amazon, the uncut version is only 77 minutes. It doesn't seem like there could be that many differences.  Would you put a spoiler guard up and describe a change?

In addition to cuts that were made, there were wholesale substitutions of footage and digital alterations of things left in.

This is all contained at http://www.worldsfinestonline.com/WF/beyond/backstage/rotjedits/ with pictures (although I have tried to correct its grammatical errors here):
