Gay Punk Rock
« on: January 09, 2007, 10:51:20 PM »
There is a great Black Flag cover band outta LA right now with the name of Black Fag!  They are awesome. It is like Black Flag with Fred Schnieder from the B-52s singing. Great stuff!

I started to follow them and there seems to be a trend of homosexual hardcore bands with names that parody the original band like The Gayrilla Biscuits and Youth of Togay. I haven't been able to get any of the releases from Youth of Togay but I got a download of  the first 12 inch from the Gayrilla Biscuits and they are pretty good.

I am hoping I can go see Black Fag next time I am in LA. They are supposed to be fun in concert.

There is also the Queers. They did a full album of Ramones covers that was pretty good and they also put on a great show.

I don't think they're actually gay, though.  They just wanted a provocative name.

When my friend Helen told me she was going to see the Queers, I thought she was just on about some gay people she didn't like too much :) True story.

Pansy Division are ace, one of my treasured possessions from my days of 7" single collecting is their "Bill and Ted's Homosexual Adventure" with what could politely be called an explicit cover. Go on and get famous, you guys!

What about Sissor Sisters?

Or even Snatchbox 20?

Anyone heard of Final Fantasy?  It's not gay punk, sorry, but he is gay himself if that helps.  He plays the violin, and for the most part that's all there is, especially during concerts, where it's just him and a pedal that he uses to loop tracks he makes on stage.  The music is surprisingly nerdy, with a lot of D&D and video game references, but at the same time it's really beautiful.

Might have to get my Black Flag tattoo coloured.
