So 2009 is half over - what do you think so far?
« on: July 16, 2009, 01:35:26 PM »
So we're halfway through the year, and I think it's been an extremely great year for gaming.  I've found myself playing more games lately than I have in years, and having a blast with them (much to wife's dismay).  I'm a PS3 guy, so the only stuff I've played is on that system.

So what are your guys' favorites so far?  Your least favorites?  And what has surprised you?

Favorites
So far, my favorite game this year has been Red Faction: Guerrilla.  Not only did they make a game engine that has the most breathtaking destruction I've ever seen, not only are the controls tight, the mission design solid, and the graphics superb...but they created one of the best online multiplayer experiences I've ever had.
Downloadable games honorable mentions: Flower, PixelJunk Eden Encore, Bomberman Ultra

My biggest surprise so far this year would have to be Battlefield 1943.  I had never even heard of this game until the week it was released, and I was very impressed with how much fun this little online-only shooter was.  And for $15, it's a steal.

I think this year's been decent so far, what with Capcom releasing Resident Evil 5 and Street Figher IV, a great E3, and the Fallout expansion packs that keep rolling out.  As usual though, it's the latter half of the year that turns up the most quality games.  Xbox's summer of arcade looks cool, Dragon Age, Call of Duty 6, Splinter Cell, Assassin's Creed 2 look likely to be the big winners for the autumn and Christmas period.
