The year was 1984. While the fascistic regime foretold by Orwell had not yet come to power the nation had been brought to its knees, the victim of repeated playings of Karma Chameleon and Sister Christian. The country needed something to believe in, something besides aerobics or Emmanuel Lewis' winning the People's Choice Award. And so they came, a ragtag group of heroes in a beat-up pickup, complete with a beat-up gun rack: Jed, Aardvark, Daryl, Arturo and their brave, though prone-to-sniveling compatriot Robert (played by the prone-to-sniveling C. Thomas Howell.) The dawn may have been a red one, but they would make sure that when the sun set, it would be red... white and blue!

Joining Mike for this very special RiffTrax is Joel McHale, the Daryl to Mike's Arturo, or perhaps the Jed to his Aardvark, or maybe the Aardvark to his Daryl. The point is, it is the perfect partnership with which to assail the enemies of freedom, i.e., the makers of Red Dawn!

So just a quick question, I saw that someone mentioned that the Collector's Edition DVD falls out of Sync but the Original Discontinued copy available from Netflix works perfect. Which dvd did you use to Record the Riff?

Thanks

We used the regular edition, which is the one NetFlix has in stock. It looks like the Collector's edition might have a slightly longer intro - we're investigating and will let you know what to adjust for.
I work REALLY hard on the site. (Not the forum so much.) I'd love it if you bought me a beer via PayPal!

My guess would be that the issue arises if you're trying to rip the DVD.  If you're watching it normally, there probalby won't be an issue.  There is no indication that different cuts of the movie exist.

Heh.  When I first heard about this I was scrambling to obtain it thinking it was the OTHER Joel.  Anyone else do that? Finally when I ended up buying it and looking at the page I sort of wilted...but it was still great.

The movie, however, once again reminded me how much I hate the eighties style of things.  (I can't say "I hate the eighties", because they were MY sixties, and I spent the first half of them immersed in hippie music/styles and the latter half immersed in industrial noise music and rivethead clubs.  I stayed as far from most 80s music and movies as possible, with a few exceptions--like The Residents, and David Lynch, to name a couple.)

But Red Dawn is exactly the sort of flick I could only watch riffed or I would die of boredom.  Of course, now that the Soviet Union is no more, it has the retroactive irony factor fully kicked in.

Ach! the non-collectors is a flipper with fullscreen or non-anamorphic letterbox widescreen!!! EWWWWW.
Crap. I already got the cheap 1998 dvd. I don't want to toss it and spend even more getting the collectors (which I assume is anamorphic).
Sigh.

So now my choice is fullscreen and miss half the movie or pillarbox-letterbox and not use half my tv screen!
Even if the movie is crap, I still want my screen filled (as much as it can, I'm all about the OAR, so if it's 2:35 thats fine, it just needs to touch the sides of the TV!)

Not Rifftrax fault, just ranting.

Do things like this really matter for watching a Rifftraxed movie? Or for a movie like Red Dawn in general? I could see what you mean if it were something like a Star Wars or LoTR class of film, but Red Dawn is about one baby step above Made-for-TV, IMHO.
