NOT happy to discover that both this and PLANET OF THE DINOSAURS are now available as purchasable DVDs-- I recall some comment along the lines that there were "no plans" to release either film on DVD, which is why I went ahead and spent the money to download them.  Now I have to buy them again (okay, I don't "have" to, but still...)?  Is there any way for people who bought the movie initially and want a more durable product than their DVD-Rs to get some sort of a discount so they're not stuck paying twice for this? I don't mind double-dipping on the shorts, but this is pretty irritating, particularly as people asked up-front if a DVD release was in the works. Thanks.

Mark

If you bought the downloadable mpeg, why not just burn it to a cheap DVD-R disc? Pretty easy to do nowadays.

It's on DVD now?  Cool.  I figured this would happen, so I held out.  I think I'll put this in the cart with Transformers 2.

That is what I did.

I think it's a concern of ours as to whether people would just not buy the VOD if they knew the DVD was coming out, ya know? If we could have all of them available at the same time, that'd be great, but DVDs have a production they need to go through first, which takes plenty of time. Maybe in the future we can time things a little better. I understand your frustration, surely, but since digital products are our "bread and butter" we try to persuade people to go there whenever possible.
I work REALLY hard on the site. (Not the forum so much.) I'd love it if you bought me a beer via PayPal!

I think one thing that might alleviate this problem is announcing them before they are available.

They must be in production for a while. Can't you guys say such and such is coming to DVD in October (or what have you)?

I mean, obviously you mightn't know the exact date as the digital version is released or maybe you'd rather hold off and produce two or three DVDs at a time, but, well... you know?

I was pretty disappointed when the 3-riffer versions of those DVDs were released as they were released about a week or so after I finally made the plunge and bought the DVDs even though we'd been asking if the DVDs were coming.

I know you don't make the same kind of money, and have to risk the production costs and have to do the distribution and everything - so I totally see how you'd prefer that the VOD is what is bought, but on the other hand, it should really be the customers choice as to what format they want if you are offering both.

I know that both of these DVDs were asked about at least as recently as the last two shorts DVD collection's releases.

I say this because I know where Vic is coming from not because I am in any way upset. I've started not buying most of the shorts (unless we really want to see one) and got PoD free due to the live-event-hiccup, and decided that even though I was pretty sure Voodoo Man would come out on DVD, I'd buy it anyway because I really wanted to watch it right away.

I'm going to buy all of the DVDs as that is the format I prefer.

I understand this, but it seemed pretty clear, based on questions at the time, that these were going to be VOD/burnable-only releases.  A lot of people want something permanent -- as opposed to a burned DVD-R -- and knowing that an option like this will be available in the future is a good way for someone to make up their mind as to what format they want to pay for (and I know that nearly everyone on this board is going to be purchasing the shorts and the features in one way or another).  I  feel like I'm getting burned by paying twice for this-- and this experience has definitely has scared me away from downloading anything like this in the future.  And I have to say I'm disappointed that there's not some sort of discount for those of us who've already paid for this previously.

I don't think they owe us anything personally. Just because they are providing a new service or product to customers does not mean they should accommodate those who purchased a different version earlier. They did not mislead anyone in any way. It would be ridiculous to assume so... just so that they could milk more money out of you later. It may not have been an option until later... you can't blame them for expanding the range of their products can you? You wouldn't be complaining right now if they had never released the disc!  You still got a video of the riff. You paid for it. If you feel the riff is truly worth the money then buy the disc. I have no problem double dipping if I felt it was worthy.  I'd gladly support rifftrax for a few extra bucks just so they keep making the riffs.

Lets not bite the hand that feeds. I applaud rifftrax for providing us with even more options to view our riffs!

Yeah Planet of the Dinosaurs was released 5 months ago. At the time they didn't have plans to release them but you know 4 months later plans could change.  I would be pissed if they released something and said it won't be on DVD then 1 week later they release a DVD but it simply wasn't the case here.
