Aqua Teen Hunger Force (The Movie) coming in March

Meatwad, Frylock and Master Shake on the big screen!
by IGN Staff

January 3, 2007 - Aqua Teen Hunger Force, the cult hit animated series that airs during Cartoon Network's Adult Swim programming block, is coming to the big screen in the form of Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters.

A press release sets it up this way: "Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters is an action-adventure epic that reveals the mysterious origins of Meatwad, Frylock and Master Shake. When an immortal piece of exercise equipment threatens the balance of galactic peace, it is up to the Aqua Teen Hunger Force to run away from it. Peril escalates when the Plutonians team up with the Cybernetic Ghost of Christmas Past to strive for ultimate control of the sinister deadly device."

Co-creators Dave Willis and Matt Maiellaro will write, direct and produce the film.  "Never before will the silver screen be engaged in such a celebration of animation," Maiellaro and Willis said simultaneously and in unison.  Willis told Daily Variety, "It's based on our fear of exercise equipment."

The movie will reportedly hit theaters in March
courtesy of First Look Pictures. It will open on around 800 screens.

Maybe I'm just out of the loop but this was news to me when I read it. This is gonna be sweet, love this show. Also, the plot sounds a little too fan elitist and my thoughts are that this movie will bomb in the theaters but eventually sell millions of dvds. Anyway, are there any other Aqua Teen fans here?

What's the deal with people loving this show? I've about 5 or 6 episodes and none of them were funny.  Maybe it's just an American thing?

I'm American and I don't get it at all.

I LOVE the Aqua Teens! It's absurdist humor, so explanations probably wouldn't help. :^)

In its first year, I couldn't watch it at all.  I just thought it was weird.  But it really grows on you, and now I have all four DVD sets.  Now Squidbillies is the one I don't understand.  And thank God that 12 oz. Mouse is gone.
Snowhead the Blue Reindeer gave me all the presents in the world.

All right gotta stand up and defend the honor of 2 of my favorite shows there. :^)

Squidbillies, when you let it sink in and watch a few episodes, is basically Aqua Teens in the deep south. It's the same sort of weirdness in a southern accent and it's gotten a hundred times better in its second season. :^)

12 Oz. Mouse is the best show in the world, designed to appear that it's the worst show in the world. :^) If you watch just one or two episodes, all you'll see is random nonsense, but as you watch more, you start to see little threads that tie episodes to other episodes and a big conspiracy starts to surface. A plot emerges from the plotlessness, and you become obsessed with trying to unravel the hidden story. Kinda like Twin Peaks, but as a crudely drawn cartoon. :^)

I was watching an episode of Aqua Teen last night, and I gotta say it quickly went from funny to just plain filthy.

I don't mind filth when it's funny, but this was just nasty. Ok, this guy has a broom all the way up his ass. But they just went on and on and got more nasty I had to turn the channel.

I still regard Ren and Stimpy as the kings of funny nastiness.

Every now and then ATHF (And most shows on Adult Swim) like to show episodes that test the viewer's patience in different ways. That episode is one of those. ATHF has a maturity rating that can range from the early days of the Simpsons all the way to the worst episodes of South Park. :^)

I guess what I'm saying is that if this was your first episode, don't judge the show based on what you saw. :^)

Aqua Teen is good, but it was really Ren and Stimpy and Rocko's Modern Life on Nickolodeon that preceded shows like Aqua Teen. Case and point:

Have to put in my two cents here and say I'm uber-excited. I know that Aqua Teens might not appeal to a lot of people, but nothing is ever 100% liked by everyone. Most programs on the Adult Swim lineup fall into a love it or hate it category, anyway. I just happen to be one of the ones who loves it all (except Mission Hill. Didn't care for that one. Or Milk-Chan. Glad to see those two gone).

Even if it's not the best movie ever, it'll definatly be remembered as one of the weirdest movies ever.

If you like Strongbad-Emails and can blur the lines between tv programming and internet humor, then ATHF is for you. That being said, Adult Swim effin' rocks imo.

Tom Goes to the Mayor is brilliant as well. It's just absurdly entertaining toonage that helps you look at life with a light heart =)

Same as CSI - absurdly humorous, you know?

YES! We -love- Tom Goes to the Mayor! One of our favorites but a hard sell to most people who watch Adult Swim. Tim and Eric write some of most amusingly weird material I've ever seen on TV.
