The only way this works is if they lean HARD into the insanity. I want Ram Man retracting his legs and springing forward into his foes. I want Mekanek to scout ahead with his stretchy robotic neck. I want Modulok to be able to assemble himself into various configurations of limbs. I want Stinkor and Snout Spout!

I agree, gritty realism is just going to make this boring. They also are going to have to find a star that not only looks the part, but has a LOT of charisma.

Yeah, someone like him would be perfect. Otherwise we'll get one of the many many handsome and buff actors that are just blocks of wood. His brother Liam would be a good example of that.
But even with good casting, it still has to be written well.
