Castle, Anyone watching?
« on: May 12, 2009, 10:24:13 PM »
Is anyone else watching Castle? (Mondays 10/9c on ABC). I've found it to be very engaging and funny. I'm really enjoying the character Nathan Fillion is playing (novelist Richard Castle) and the chemistry going between him and Stana Katic's character (Detective Kate Beckett). As far as I'm aware it is up for a second season on ABC. It had its season finale on Monday May 11 but some of the episodes are up at http://abc.go.com/primetime/castle/
though you can't get the first 5-6  episodes there.

I was a huge fan of Fillion's work on Firefly and on Buffy so i'm really glad to see him back on a TV series that has some promise. Go check it out people! Its definitely worth watching!

I think there's a thread elsewhere on the board about the show, but yeah, I enjoy the series.  Fillion's good (as usual) and while perhaps Stana Katic reminds me a little too much of Mischa Barton to convince as a tough cop, she's at least pleasant to look at.  I've also read that it looks good to be renewed, as ratings had picked up slightly in the past couple of weeks.

Yep, my thoughts exactly. It's funny and entertaining and I love the chemistry between Fillion and Katic.

I've watched every episode, and I actually think the relationship between Castle and Beckett is the *least* interesting thing on the show. Don't get me wrong, they're fun to watch, but it's the same relationship we see between leads in EVERY TV show. (Although I think it's odd that the ads really push the "Can they get along" angle when, most often, we do see them getting along, both joking around together, playing poker, etc.)

The more interesting character relationship, I think, is between Castle and his daughter. It's a different father-child dynamic than you often see, especially when the father spends much of his time as an irresponsible fun-loving jackass.

Yeah, the jackass with a heart angle is definitely something Fillion is good at. He did great with Mal on Firefly, went total ass as Captain Hammer, and is now back to smartass with Castle.

I agree with this. That and Castle's relationship with his Mom.

Don't believe for a minute that any police force anywhere would let a civilian go along and have as much access as they portray in this show (any defense attorney would have a field day - almost every case from the first season of "Cops" got thrown out because they were filming, for example) but it's entertaining.

Definitely a decent show.  Not great, but a decent one.  I think if every channel wasn't so littered with CSI/Law & Order or similar shows it'd be a big hit.

But I do agree with the family dynamic.  That keeps it different.

Good to hear. I wonder why there were only 10 episodes in the first season. Hopefully they'll make a few more next time around.
