Big thanks to the Rifftrax guys for doing this. I'm definitely looking forward to Jedi. And I kind of wish George would make another trilogy just so we could have some more Star Wars rifftraxing.
Ditto on Chad Vader being too low in the mix. I'm not sure how they do his voice in these sessions, whether it's a filter of some kind applied live or his voice is recorded normally and then altered in post-production. Maybe someone in the know knows...?
I guess doing this one was somewhat controversial among some of you since it's the most serious (and best all around) installment of the trilogy. But watching Empire and New Hope I was reminded of one of the key reasons I liked MST3K, namely that the riffers often point out flaws in the plot, writing, cinematography, etc. that I didn't catch the first time around, and don't just make stupid jokes all the time (although there's nothing wrong with stupid jokes).
The culture surrounding these movies has become so self-serious over the years, culminating in the awful, awful episodes I-III, and I think these rifftrax help provide some needed perspective - that they are, after all, just goofy space movies from the late 70s-early 80s. Fun to watch, yes; ahead of their time, sure; but still very flawed.
