Krod Mandoon and Flaming Sword of Fire
« on: April 13, 2009, 07:25:55 PM »
What do you guys think?

I think ehhh kind of funny but not so much. I like the format, but the jokes are kind of obvious. It has the potential to be really good. But they try a little too hard to deliver laughs after every line of dialogue. The show needs more subtlety and it needs to not worry so much about being funny every second it's on screen. It's hard to get behind the protagonist when he's getting humiliated every couple of minutes. Which I imagine they do to soften the blow of using a hunky main character. LIke nerds won't watch the show if the hero is intimidating or unrelatable.

I have only seen a poster but it looks stupid.

It looked a bit too much like an epic movie type show to me.

My thing with shows like this that parody one thing or one set of things is that they are fine for a skit or even one whole episode of a show but no matter how good they are seeing the same thing parodied week after week gets old fast.

It would be like Monty Python being a show only about a guy trying to sell dead pets at a pet store.

Sure the skit was brilliant but would you want 30 minutes of it every week for five years?

I watched the first ten minutes and didn't laugh once so I deleted it.  It just fell really flat for me.

Or Monty Python doing a skit about Jesus or King Arthur for two hours! Oh... whoops!

Yes, I loved loved loved the previews and thought this would be brilliant. But in fact it's like a show that should be on Sci-Fi (sorry, I mean SkyFigh... wait, what?). It's slightly less serious than your average Joxer or Autolycus episode of Herc/Xena. That's the problem. It's a bit too dedicated to the concept. It's a little too serious. Not really that funny. Tries to be edgy, but it's not edgy enough to work. A lot of sex jokes but not much else. If you're going to be like Monty Python, you have to go for the violence and sillyness and be less overt about the sex, where sex itself isn't the joke, but the way it's referenced.

The previews for the rest of the season look better. That's always a good chance. They have Gimli.

It's closer to Mel Brooks than anything.

Not my point.

You can make a joke work for half an hour or even two hours, but 100 hours I think is pushing it.

We are talking about series not a movie.

Would you really have tuned into Monty Python and the Holy Grail the series?

That at least had a laugh track, so you knew when they did something the writers thought was funny....

Also isn't it a little late to make fun of Lord of the Rings?

It's almost a direct parody of Legend of the Seeker, which really makes no sense. But I guess they're both generic. Also, isn't a little late to make a Lord of the Rings movie? Those books are what, over 10 years old? lol
