Help find the right version of Plan 9 PAL
« on: August 29, 2006, 05:28:58 AM »
Hey there, I'm having a hell of a time tracking down a rental copy of ANY of the classic movies. Has anyone who is using the PAL system successfully watched these yet, and can they help me find the right version to order?

These are the ones I can find to buy on JBHifi's webpage:

That one doesn't say how long it runs for.

This one's 78 minutes, also it's only five bucks, so I hope that's the right one!

Also 78 minutes, which is a good sign I guess.

Is anyone able to help out?

Thanks.
FINE

Isn't Mike always saying the cheaper versions won't work?  I've got an Ed Wood box set so I'm hoping that'll work.

He says they MAY not. You haven't watched it yet then? How long does your version run for?

I think that was specific to Night of the Living Dead.  Since George Romero left a copyright notice off his movie (oops!), it slipped into the public domain.  As a result, anyone and everyone has released it on VHS and DVD, frequently with bits hacked out for whatever reason.

There may well be releases of Plan 9 that are chopped up, too, but I doubt it's anywhere near as big a concern as with NotLD.

I got the rifftrax for Plan 9 from Outer Space and for me it was really hard to synch up the rifftrax with the film. I bought the dvd from Play.com and its an official release and everything but still - i had to sit next to my computer all the way through the film so i could keep synching it up.

My copy is 78 minutes long as well so maybe you will have the same problem whichever copy you buy. I still really enjoyed the riffs but for me it was just a bit of a task. I didnt intend for any of this to sound derogatory, i am new to this board and the last thing i want to do is hack anyone off, but that was my experience. I will still buy more rifftrax, maybe it was me that was being slightly incompetant - its been known to happen :D
