Radio Plays and other recorded audio dramas
daltysmilth:
I suppose these aren't technically radio plays or audio dramas, but they aren't conventional audiobooks either. Anyway, I have the audio adaptations of John Hodgman's the Areas Of My Expertise and More Information Than You Require, which as I was saying, are not conventional audiobooks in the sense that it consists of someone just reading the text of the book in a recording studio. Both recordings feature the author reading the text, or most of it, but he is also joined in the studio by Jonathan Coulton and briefly by Paul Rudd in the first one, and both Coulton and Rudd in the second one, as well as Sarah Vowell, Ira Glass, Paul F. Tompkins, Zack Galifanakis, and Ricky Gervais. In addition to reading the text, he banters and bickers with Coulton who provides music for the recordings, and banters with the other guests as well. All in all, it's a slightly different experience from the books.

I've listened to some of these:

Not too bad, actually.
I've also listened to Orson Welles War of The Worlds.

The BBC do a Drama of the Week podcast. Last week was David Warner (bad guy in Tron) doing The Tempest. I haven't heard it yet, but it's a different one every week.

Yeah, though I'm not 100% sure that they put them out on iTunes for people to download after the fact. I've seen a lot of the audiobook readings floating around on torrent sites, but not where someone could listen to them legitimately.
