Replacement for "Jump the Shark"?
« on: March 17, 2009, 04:47:56 AM »
Hey after TV guide trashed "Jump the shark"'s website, I saw on Mike Hernalsteen's Blog that some guys made a new website to go back and rate television shows, www.bonethefish.com

Damn you TV guide, but at least someone made up a replacement

Nuke the Fridge.

Much like TVTropes, I'm skeptical that twenty or thirty years from now, the fridge scene will be remembered the same way Fonzie's shark jump is today. Since, unlike "Happy Days", the Indy films were never based in reality.

Er, hate to break it to you, but nobody DID remember Fonzie jumping a shark. Nobody knew what that meant until that website told them. They could have made it up. Any phrase could be a replacement. Happy Days was hardly the end-all-be-all of quality gone wrong.

How about, "Showing The Last Episode Of Seinfeld"?

I think it's supposed to be TV related. Hiring Michael Bay would end television forever.

"Changing Your Name To SyFy"?

Frankly I'd never even HEARD of the website jumptheshark.com... despite the fact that I knew what the phrase meant (I used to watch the reruns when I was a kid, and actually saw the episode). When I want to read shitty, mean-spirited, uneducated hatemail about TV shows, I go to the original source, televisionwithoutpity.com. :)
