Kings (NBC)
« on: March 09, 2009, 08:52:46 PM »
I've been seeing ads for this new deal everywhere and I honestly don't know what to think of it. It's being called a soap opera, which I don't understand but still scares the crap outta me, and it doesn't offer a single actor that I care about EXCEPT Ian McShane.

I think that McShane might be the only saving factor for the show, but I could be wrong since the series hasn't started yet.

My dad hates it based solely on the commercials.

I can't say it looks better than Satan's bloody bowel movements, but anything's possible.

It's the story of King David, I'll try to watch it, because I'm hoping the keep a Samuel type character about. Which means that eventually they'll have to do a seance scene and that might be fun.

Or they may completely dispense with Samuel and then it will just be a stupid soap opera.

Also what kind of big tough Kingdom has a pretty wee butterfly as its symbol?

The same reason Ali floats like one?

Hmm I just don't see that working for a nation state though, unless all its policy statements are delivered in cocky proto-rap form. :)

Only a truly fascist regime would have as innocuous a symbol as a butterfly on their flag. It's to convince people they are really the good guys. Why do you think the Nazis had a sun symbol? The only thing left is puppies.

One that's ruled by a Monarch.   :P

I'm going to assume that since Ian McShane's character is based on King Saul that we will see him attempting to kill David several times..........that should be fun :D

I wonder if they will ever get to the Bathsheba issue.

Ooh I hope so, heh heh heh, that has sweeps week written all over it, she's probably going to take a long old time in that bath.

But yeah see it has potential I think, but I rather fear it'll end up as a sort of Bible based Dallas

Can't wait to see if they carry on, how they'd deal with Absalom and his girly hair.  Oh and the whole Tamar/Amnon thing (people, if you're going to read only one bit of the bible, make it the section covered by Samuel 1 & 2 , Kings 1 & 2 and Chronicles 1 & 2*, that's some racy stuff right there :D)

* Your Bible might have a different arrangement of books depending upon which church it's been created for..

Hey.....John Peter McAllister in Master Ninja had a butterfly as a symbol of his family.  You calling him a wimp?   ;)

As far as this show....I've looked at the commercials....

I think it could be fairly interesting, plus McShane is fucking awesome.
