Neil Gaiman.

When oh when will they make an American Gods movie so I can bitch about it not being as good as the book?

I sacrifice a kitten to Anansi every fortnight, just in case.

I just thought of something that's slightly relevant to this discussion.  Has anyone ever noticed that Harry almost never gets his own money out of Gringotts in the books?  It seems like Mrs. Weasley always buys Harry's school things, but it rarely mentions how she gets the money to do so.  We're left to assume that she gets the money out of Harry's account somehow.  But how can she do that?  It's not like she can go up to the ATM, can she?  I guess Bill Weasley could do it somehow, but it seems like there would have to be some regulation that the person in whose name the account is has to be there.  So, as far as I can tell, the only explanations are that either Mrs. Weasley (with help from Charlie) are stealing the money from Harry's account, or Harry owes Mrs. Weasley several thousand galleons for school supplies.  What do you think?

Dalty I remember in one of the books that Harry either A. gives her a ton of money to be used for school supplies in the future or some how his account is acessible  by her ....I just remember it  being an off the cuff comment in one of the books.

I am failry sure that he never gave her any money and that she has no way of getting money.  but usually there is a small line about him getting money.

In the fourth book, he wins a pretty penny from the TriWizard Tournament..

though he gives it to the Wiesly twins so they could fund their Joke Shop

but yeah, one would have to wonder how Harry gets his money

i thought he has gone to gringotts on several occasion?  I think i almost remember there being a line in each book about it.  Not a big line just a small one.  Usually followed with how embarressed ron is or something.

American Gods wasn't that great of a book. It was okay for about 3/4ths of the way, but the end was a real shit-storm of underwhelming crapitude.  Talk about buildup with a fizzle out--I hope Gaiman experiences some impotence for awhile so he can understand how I felt about his book with all that buildup and an embarrassing lack of a proper climax.

I must admit that American Gods' ending is a bit lacking, but I still enjoyed the hell out of the book. I also felt like a complete boob for not guessing who Shadow's cellmate was. ::)

My buddy and I have discussed this. It could very likely be Morpheus, the star of a certain other Neil Gaiman work. I figure it was either a very sly reference to Sandman, or not meant to be any mythological character in particular.

Back OT (relatively speaking), has anyone seen this?

Harry Potter: Fraud

It's a pretty good article. As a teacher, I remember really bristling when Harry complains of someone giving homework that "there's Quidditch tomorrow!" as if the teacher gives a flaming rat's ass about a sport, and then I started thinking, "You know...he's just a rich jock kid."

Very interesting.

It definitely was an interesting article, to say the least.

I disagree with some of it, mainly the underlying message that Harry doesn't deserve to be the series' hero. The rebuttal argument was brought up in the article's reader responses that Harry received much more abuse than most kids, and he's still just a kid, who's been thrust into a position he, for the most part, doesn't want. It's the story of a boy destined to save the Wizard world from the most powerful evil Wizard in a thousand years. How would most kids nowadays react?

Sounds to me like the author has been hanging around Snape too long.   ;)
