Missile2MoonWeb.jpg

More than a decade before Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and The Other Guy actually landed on the moon, Missile to the Moon made giant leaps for both man AND mankind with its daring portrayal of how the first lunar voyage might play out.  It turned out to have gotten a lot of the details right.  Except that instead of a meticulously planned journey that took NASA countless man hours to achieve, the impromptu trip of Missile to the Moon takes place on a crazy old man's whim, and four of the five participants wander aboard the ship by accident.  Also, where Missile to the Moon portrayed the moon as a dynamic backdrop for intrigue, love, betrayal, and deception, when our guys got to the moon, they sort of just looked around for a while, hit a golf ball or two, then got the hell back to Earth to try and catch Carson.  And the real moon also turned out not to be crawling with beauty queens, giant spiders and hideous rock men.  Just dust.

As you can see, the real moon was kind of a bummer.  So instead of going there, why not just stock up on the Tang and Astronaut Ice Cream and hop aboard your very own Missile to the Moon with Mike, Kevin and Bill?

This is a reinterpretation of the RiffTrax recorded by Mike and Fred Willard]

I'm a little saddened.  I had the 2-Riffer version, bought the 3-Riffer version expecting all of Fred's riffs replaced with all new riffs, but heard a lot of Fred's riffs still there, (did he say "mu-pet"?).  Sure, they were funny the first time, but there is just something about Fred's personality that adds a different dimension.  I know he might not have written all his own riffs, but it seems like he "owns" them now.  It is like hearing a comedian doing another comedian's material, it automatically makes it sound forced or cheap.

Very dissapointed with this, since its hardly any different from the 2 riffer version.  This is not new material, its old writing rehashed :(

On a related topic, I often go to the grocery store, read the list of ingrediants on a can of Spam and end up disappointed when I open it up and it ain't a ribeye steak.

That's cause there ain't no real 'brand marks' left behind on Spam like there is on a Cow that's been Whipped a few times *WHOSH-TIZZ* :P

Please let us know how we can make it more clear.  We thought that putting "This is a three-man version of the RiffTrax previously performed by Mike and Fred Willard" in the product description would suffice.

This may sound like a sore remark, but no that didnt suffice at all.   At first that sounds like a note simply stating that the movie has been riffed on before.  Only after realizing I spent 10 bucks on old material did the real meaning of that disclaimer become clear.  To be upfront and clear, it could say something like, "Most of the commentary in this Three Riffer version is the same as the previous version recorded by Mike Nelson and Fred Willard.  There is no new material."

To the staff who already knew what was up, Im sure it does sound clear, but to just change one man's voice for two others is really ridiculous, so when I saw a new version avaliable, I NEVER would have guessed that it was old writing.  Who would?  Honestly its very simple.  The three riffer versions should either be different material, or they shouldnt be done.

Sincerely,

Daniel

I'm curious to know how much better this version did sales wise. I assume most people didn't have a problem with the recycled riffs since they apparently didn't buy the original with Fred.

Please send us an email at support@rifftrax.com  We don't want anyone to be upset about their purchase.  We tried to make it clear with all of these recent releases how much the original product varied from the initial DVD commentary, and in most cases, it was a great deal.  Misile to the moon was the exception.  I think that the way it is currently phrased now does indicate that it is just a version of the same script, but with all three guys in the booth.

It might just be a matter of exposure to the various tracks.  I know I was expecting this track to be very similar after reading the description, but that might be because I've been buying all the 3 riffer re-releases and I could compare that to product descriptions that say "this track is substantially different"  If this was the only re-release or one of a few that someone buys it might not be as clear to them.

Well, perhaps I'm the only one, (wouldn't be the first time) but I'm looking forward to listening to this and I am very familiar with the Original. I actually wasn't that crazy about Fred Willard's delivery and am interested to see if I find the same jokes more enjoyable with the regular trio, whose delivery I never have issues with.

Nothing really to be upset about.  It costs less than a cup of Starbucks to give it a shot.  I just get the creepy feeling when someone does someone else's material.  But I wonder if the Fred Willard riffs were written by him or by Rifftrax.  I thought it sounded like Fred's kind of humor.  I think I've bought every Rifftrax short and watch it every day.
