Potential Tropical Cyclone Twenty-Six.
This is expected to be the next named storm which would be Delta. The latest track has it steering into the northern Gulf Coast late this week as a hurricane. Impacts from Delta could reach our area in the Carolinas by this weekend.

Wholy Crap! Hurricane Delta has exploded from a Cat 2 to a Cat 4 in a matter of hours
Heading straight for Cancun then towards Louisiana..

Major update: The Hurricane Hunters have found that Delta is now a Category 4 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 130 mph. Delta is the strongest Greek alphabet named Atlantic hurricane on record. Category 5 status is possible given the current trends and favorable environment.  Hurricane warnings are in place for the NE portion of the Yucatan Peninsula.

Delta is now forecast to be the record 10th US land-falling tropical cyclone in a single season (9 in 1916). Areas along the Northern Gulf Coast are at risk for impacts while still dealing with the aftermath of Laura and Sally.

Already had a couple rain showers here today from Delta.. Isolated severe thunderstorms are possible across my area of the Carolina Piedmont and western Carolinas into northeast Georgia through Sunday afternoon. A brief tornado cannot be ruled out. The risk is marginal. Rain estimates around 2 inches +/- in my locale

Heavy rains from Delta passed over my locale last night, so much so that I didn't get much sleep and another heavy band is approaching.. Should be here by 8am then a break in the storms for a little while.

Friday afternoon: A disturbance, Invest 95L (possible future Greek name Zeta), has suddenly flared up in the NW Caribbean Sea this afternoon. The computer models aren't going bananas for it, but 1) it's heading toward the Gulf of Mexico and Florida, 2) HMON (which has done very well this year) makes it a hurricane, and 3) it's in a climatologically favored region for this time of year.
Let's see what happens if it intensifies and heads towards the southeast

We will likely see another landfalling tropical storm or hurricane on the U.S. gulf coast moving into the southeast during the middle of the upcoming week!

Meanwhile, New Mexico has a big ol' snowstorm parked over it. 6 inches of snow may not sound like much to most of the country, but it's a lot more than we're used to. And we never get snow in October. At least I'm telecommuting, so I still have to work. (Grumble)
