Lie to me!
« on: January 21, 2009, 11:58:38 PM »
This is the best twist on the detective genre I've seen since... Pushing Daisies, I suppose. I like "Life," but there's barely a twist there. More of a weird b-story added.

I expect it's all made up, or else everybody who watches the show will become an expert on lying. It's probably an exaggeration of the truth. But man, the celebrity photos are hilarious. It's like they made a website into a TV show.

I really wish a cover of the Eurythmics' "Would I Lie To You?" was the theme song for this show. Probably won't be. If Fox did clever commercials, it would probably be in one, but they don't.

I wish I was Tim Roth's character. He's like a superhero.

I thought it was decent enough for me to give it a few more episodes.  I love Kelli Williams, so that helps, and the fact that Roth isn't pretending to be American is nice, too.  Don't like the "radical truth" guy though - there's a difference between telling the trufh, and blurting out all your thoughts without council.

The commercials make it look really obnoxious.

It is kind of obnoxious.  It's like "House" except he's not a medical doctor.

We just watched it this evening. It was pretty good... like mrbasehart said, I'm REALLY glad Roth isn't putting on a fake American accent, because his American sucks. The show has potential, I can see it being fun to watch.

Of course, because of my current economic situation, we couldn't help but spend about half the episode fantasizing about some crazy fringe government office snapping me up and handing me a big fat briefcase full of cash as a signing bonus. :P

Hey, it could be worse. It could be Christian Bale. Or it could be Clive Owen in a trenchcoat.

Watched this one last night. Roth's performance was alright.. altho at times he seemed to start drifting towards "Caruso in CSI:Miami" territory... with the whole "I'm smarter and more schmarmy that you" vibe. The script is typical pilot episode stuff for this kind of show. Things were concentrated on the backstory and the characters moreso than the mystery at hand, which was bland enough to have been lifted from an old Matlock or Diagnosis:Murder.

Like Basehart said, it's worthy of a few more episodes to see how it pans out.... I'm hoping that the super close up, CGI enhanced facial twitch gimmick was laid on thick for the pilot just to drive home the premise... but I got a feeling it wasn't. If Roth fades any closer to Caruso and the show ends up being a half dozen "zoom in on the nose scrunch!" every episode, I'll probably decide to pass unless they start trotting out some interesting cases to solve.

People sure are picky. If this gets cancelled because of you, it will be replaced by something worse, not better. What do you want, Tim Roth advising the president when aliens are lying? It's a detective show, not a murder mystery. You either get on board or you get out of the way. I got way way way out of the way when I saw how bad Eleventh Hour was, and that the detective's only skill was being a detective. Life's only saving grace is that it's occasionally weird and funny. I won't watch any other detective shows.

I liked it. I thought it was like Bones except with Lies. I will also check it out more
