I love it when I throw a disc in and it goes directly to the movie. I wish more were like that. I don't need previews, i don't need piracy ads etc..

Are there any BBC ones you have; a few of their DVDs make you watch stuff before you can get to anything useful.

I saw The Adventures of Baron Munchhausen BD today.  It's got a great picture, further enhanced by the beautiful photography in the movie, but it's also got a fantastic hour-long documentary on the making of the movie, which by all accounts, was a bit of a disaster.  Eric Idle is hilariously candid in his interview, stating that, "apart from perhaps boarding school, it was the worst experience of my life."

Oh right, I forgot about those goddamn BBC America ads.

When We Left Earth was the same, had a Discovery Channel ad that you couldn't skip (a least I couldn't figure out how).

I've never had a disk where you couldn't skip the previews, even di$ney disks, usually hitting the menu button jumps you to the main menu, but sometimes you have to hit chapter skip for each preview to skip them.

Isn't every Gilliam picture somehow a problem? I feel like the guy can't ever get something done in time/right/on budget/at all.  I can't wait to get this one though; my "fun budget" for the month is exhausted, but it looks like I might be able to swap out a fuse in my amplifier instead of buying a whole new one for the sound system, so next month... :)

I'm sure that's the reason the studio refused JK Rowling's request to have him direct the Harry potter movies.  We would probably be on movie #2 by now and the kids would be in their 40s by the time the entire series was done....

The Meaning of Life was out on HD-DVD, still hasn't been transfered to Blu-Ray.

It's funny, because Munchausen was the film that gave him that reputation: his previous movies were all on-time and budget.  It's pretty clear in the documentary that Terry believes there were a whole manner of things wrong with Munchausen's production that caused it to spiral out of control: the Line Producer who put the whole thing together, who's on the doc too, and seems a right squirmy git; the Italians' constant leveraging for more money; just outright bad luck; and himself, who never really thought about the money he was spending until it ran out mid-way through the shoot.

I can't recall any other budgetary problems his films have had.  The Man who Killed Don Quixotte fell through because the backers mysteriously disappeared.  Brothers Grimm was delayed 6 months because he had the idiocy to work with someone like Harvey Weinstein.

Amazon has a few BDs for cheap, until Feb 15th:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html?ie=UTF8&ref%5F=pe%5F25420%5F11186980%5Famb%5Flink%5F83383831%5F1&docId=1000330121

Not much there, I'm considering Reservoir Dogs.  $11.99 is a good price, but I dont want to pay shipping....

So, we were discussing Trek in the other thread, but here's a nifty little announcement from The Digital Bits on Trek.

Some pics:

Keep in mind two things:
1) This is apparently a Norwegian site that these pictures came from, so it's a euro release, but
2) That movie's coming out this year, so I can't imagine we won't see these in BD here as well.

YES!

The Princess Bride finally coming to BD March 17.

I hate to double dip, but if this gets high marks in the audio/video department, I'm gonna have to buy it.

I can't imagine that they wouldn't.  They do like their limited-time only releases, and they space them out pretty far, so you may have to wait a little.

I wonder how many times they will release it on BD?? They released it on 5 separate occasions on DVD.
