The backstory for it was pretty stupid as well. They called him Harvey two-face because he investigated crooked cops who took bribes from the mob. Uh-huh, right. Wow, he SAYS he doesn't like crime, but really he doesn't like COPS! What a two-face! Why, he gives with one hand while taking with the other... like some kind of a... guy with two faces!

You run into this a lot when directors are trying to make a silly comic mythos fit into a "real world" setting.

The options seem to be:

"So the Hulk has this adversary called 'Abomination.' That's silly. Let's just off-handedly mention that he IS an abomination at some point."
"So Iron Man fights a guy called the 'Ironmonger.' That's silly.. Let's never refer to him by that name."
"Batman rides in the 'Batmobile.' That's silly. Let's call it the Tumbler."
or:
"The Fantastic Four's arch enemy is 'Dr. Doom.' It's silly, but my paycheck is assured. Let's call him Dr. Doom!"

Yeah, the filmmakers overthink the realism to the point that it becomes more unrealistic than before. On the bonus disc, Nolan was talking about how he wanted this new "realistic" batsuit made of armor plates in the first movie but they couldn't afford it. That was a reaction to the rubber suit being "a material that's trying to look like another material" (I don't know what that means). And I'm thinking, the rubber suit was YOUR IDEA, IDIOT! He doesn't wear a rubber suit in the comics! He wears cloth! An actual material! You're devising a complicated solution to a problem that didn't need to exist!

Now we're calling Chris Nolan an "idiot"...is there no end to our cleverness?

I'm not sure how you can be subtle about someone who has HALF HIS FACE BURNT OFF.
I figured Nolan would use more make-up, less cgi.

I don't remember claiming that made me clever.

I don't even know how much CGI he used since the DVD spent exactly 0 seconds on the topic.

Something I think I noticed in the movie as a way of implying the Joker and Batman  were seemingly alike was that neither of them drink.  Wayne was dumping his over the side of the building at the party and when the Joker shows  up he tips back the glass of champaign only after he deliberately dumps most if not all of it out.  I guess it stuck with me because I hate to see good booze wasted.
And I'm worse than Hitler.

Finally saw the movie last night.    Wanted to see it unriffed before I watch the riffed version.

My Verdict, 4/5 stars.

Very good movie, lots of action, Ledger should get an academy award nomination and Bale is great.    Liked the scene with the prisoner on the boat who asked the warden to give him the detonator so he could toss it out the window.

Not sure why all the fuss was on riffing this film.   It was good, but not Citizen Kane or The Third Man or anything like that.

I am still puzzled WHY they had to pin Dent's murder victims on Batman instead of some random thug that either got away or was already dead.   There had to be a better option.

I know the movie was only two hours and giving a fully realized character turning evil/insane event would be hard to fit in one moive, but damn, Dent went evil/insane VERY quickly.
