Movies that no one but me seems to like
« on: December 12, 2006, 01:44:32 PM »
Okay, in the interest of equal time, what are some movies that people here like that no one else seems to enjoy.

For me, my list would include the first two Evil Dead movies.  Okay, yes, they're cheesy.  But the fact that the first one got made is a testament to what an independent filmmaker can do, and what can I say, the second one makes me laugh.

I also like Back To The Future Part II slightly more than I like Part III.  I didn't have a hard time understanding it like some people apparently do.  I don't completely agree with its version of how time travel works, but I think if they portrayed it how I think time travel works, it might not have made as interesting a movie.

And I may catch a lot of flak for this, but I don't care.  I liked the Lost In Space movie.

Lost in Space met my every expectation. It very much captured the campy feel of the old show, and if anyone expected anything deeper than that, they deserved their disappointment. :^) They weren't adapting Twilight Zone here. Lost in Space was never a brilliant show.

I'll also add Wing Commander to the list for much the same reason. It captured the video game. Granted the Video Game did a better job of being a movie than the movie did, and they kinda got the Killrathi wrong, but it was still worth the (Then under 5 bucks) cost of a matinee show. :^)

I love all of the Back to the Future movies with #3 being my favorite.
As for other guilty pleasures (aside from...cough...nevermind)
Doc Hollywodd- don't know why but I love it! Possibly my favorite movie.
JFK, Dances With Wolves and Waterworld- I can't help it, I love long and terrible Kevin Costner movies.
There are others but those are at the top of my lonely list.

Everybody likes Evil Dead II!!!*  It was a comedy, just like Army of Darkness.  Hell, it's the only movie in history that I like BETTER than Army of Darkness.  And I like the first Evil Dead movie for the same reason that you do.

* I found one guy who didn't, but I swallowed his soul, so it's all good now.

The Mark Hamill games? I liked the one where you eventually had to stop flirting with the two women and pick one.  There was also one bit where you had an option of staying in the bar and getting drunk, if you did, the following mission had all the controls screwed up.   ;D

Edit: Oh, and on topic, while I stated a few films back in my old thread on this subject.  I didn't mention Mannequin.  I haven't seen it in years, but Kim Catrall was a childhood crush before I even knew what they were.

I like Reign of Fire.

I also like Reign Of Fire. Yes, it's stupid, but the dragons are cool. And how many movies have cool dragons? Not many. It also features funny Scottish accents, which I enjoy.

Yeah, but if you want to watch cool dragon movies with funny Scottish accents, why not go with Dragonheart?  The only movie I know of that has a cool dragon with a Scottish accent

I like the 5th Element.  Yes there is too much Chris Tucker in a dress.  Yes, the plot is silly.  But three things give it place in my heart:

1. An organic, lived-in, eye-popping world
2. Bruce Willis, who plays Everyman better than anyone since Gary Cooper
3. Mila Jovovich, wearing nothing but bandages and looking luminous.

I liked the third (direct to video!) Crow movie a lot. I thought it was eons beyond the second one, which actually made it into theaters somehow and featured absolutely no acting whatsoever.

Plus it has a truly incredible performance from Matthew McConaughey.  I've never seen anything quite like that.
