Good job with all the reviews, wherethefishlives. I'm glad you enjoyed them,

Yeah, thanks! And I'm extending my donations for reviews offer through August, so if you post them on orderoftheleague.com, they will count towards that.

Drawback Productions - Fast Five

Wish I hadn't taken so long to check this out. Solid work. It was a really fun time, and considering this movie was apparently two hours long and I didn't notice, I'd say that's a big accomplishment.

Great intro. Short, funny, to the point. I hate when intros drag on forever.

Something odd I noticed: the sync lines don't seem very precise. The jokes were timed perfectly the whole time, but it seemed like the sync lines were off different amounts every time they came up.

I'm probably going to watch it again with AsbestosBill, and I'll be sure to write down favorite lines then. All I can say now is that I was chuckling through the whole thing. The one line that sticks out in my mind as I write this is "The Rock just got a check from Funderware."

Recommended. I feel like Drawback Productions is not talked about a lot on these boards, but I think they should be.

Focusing on watching and reviewing OotL things this month, on account of this: https://orderoftheleague.com/pages/yadi-cancer-fund . Here's what I've hit over the last couple weeks...

Quiptracks -- "Jumper" -- Oh, man, I'd forgotten how thoroughly this adaptation of a fairly good Stephen Gould novel was botched by the filmmakers. Also, Samuel L. Jackson's q-tip hairdo. The riff, though, is hysterically funny throughout, and absolutely essential to any future viewing.

Ice on Mars -- "The Lizzie McGuire Movie" -- Not to put too fine a point on it, but this movie was like a rusty cheese grater to my brain. I can only imagine what a steady diet of Disney-channel-esque vapidity would do to me -- likely, prepare me to be a fan of TLC programming. It's not even a better love story than Twilight!

Fortunately, the riffing is sharp, dirty, and mercilessly hilarious. It kept me from running away from this movie at speed, leaving me-shaped holes in walls as I accelerate toward the horizon... and what more can I ask than that?

Quiptracks -- "Van Helsing" -- Van Helsing is two hours stuffed with incomprehensible action, baffling dialogue, whackadoodle physics, dirt-dumb plotting, and sad comic relief. Is it any wonder I love it so? It's basically peak Stephen Sommers, just before the steep decline leading to 'G.I. Joe.'

The Quiptracks crew is firing on all cylinders with this riff -- consistently funny and fast-paced, with a lot of laugh-out-loud moments. Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got to get going...

*cue going places music!*

Ice On Mars, Voyager s2 e3 "Projections" - A great riff. For a savagely stupid episode. Kelly McQueen joins Michael  Bradley on this riff, and she is excellent! I would never believe it's her first time on a riff.

Finally Voyager has an episode entirely based around Rob Picardo, BY FAR THE BEST ACTOR IN THE SHOW, and easily the best part of the whole show. And they not only give him a plot that is terrible and nonsensical even by Voyager standards, but they pair him up with easily the worst actor I've ever seen on the show?! I don't recognize the actor that plays Reginald, but he is awful.
Neelix gets a pointless bit of comic releif that fails on all levels. He gets in a foodfight with a Kazon, and it feels right out of a movie for gradeschoolers.

Loved the song about Janeway during the opening

Why is she reprogramming the chihuahua treadmill?

I am feelin' NO PAIN! (loved the performance on this one)

This remote is awesome!

We raised you from a Level 1 Wallace Shawn.

He's apparently a minor recurring character on Next Gen., and we will apparently see more of him on Voyager eventually, but not until season 6. (Can't wait!)

He's played by Dwight Schultz, more famous as Murdock from the 80's A-Team series.  He also played Reginald in the Star Trek: First Contact movie.

Since Voyager, it looks (from a quick gander at wikipedia) like his career has mainly been voiceover work for animated films and tv, with a side of right-wing opinionating on radio and the net.

He played the same character on Next Generation too.

Ice On Mars, Voyager s2 e4 "Elogium" - A good riff, with guest riffer Kevin from Quiptracks. This episode is allll about sex. The ship flies through a cloud of space sperm, which tries to have sex with the ship. Kes is explicitly stated to be very underage, but wants to have sex with Neelix for six days to have a child. Oh, and it apparently never occurred to anyone on Voyager that if it's going to take 70 years to get back to the Federation there might be crew that would have sex and have children. Truly the Federation hires only the best and brightest.

I will inKALE you!!

I hear you are looking for things to put in your mouth.

I think I remember that now. It was one of those awful holodeck episodes, too.

Again focusing on watching and reviewing OotL things this month, on account of this: https://orderoftheleague.com/pages/yadi-cancer-fund . Here's what I've hit over the last couple weeks...

Quiptracks -- "Godzilla 1998" - The monster in this movie was a terrible CGI creation, and the story of him getting to New York and causing havoc was rife with logic holes, just-so coincidences, and lame attempts at humor... and that's just Matthew Broderick. The filmmakers didn't treat Godzilla well, either.

I enjoyed the riff, though it didn't seem to have the zing of some of the other Quiptracks I've watched movies with. That might have more to do with the movie itself, though -- films like this are big, soggy, fish-smelly blankets, and even a good riffing can't lift it up. But there were lots of funny lines in the riff, and more than a few laugh-out-loud moments, so, overall, worth checking out.

Ice on Mars -- "Star Trek: Voyager - S01 E01: "The Caretaker" -- Man, this episode brings back memories. The Maquis, invented out of whole cloth in DS9 and TNG to give this series a twist it could go on to ignore. The giant amoeba/old-timey prospector who's trying to save a world its race screwed up, who pulls in Voyager to help with that because with great power comes incredibly poor judgement. Whatever was up with the Kazons' hair. Damn, now I have to suppress those memories all over again.

The riff was fun and entertaining, laying waste to a target-rich environment of a show coasting on the better work of its predecessors. Some great jokes and lots of good ones that got me through this (and Paris's smug-field) and looking forward to the next two I have!

Quiptracks -- "Dragonball: Evolution" -- My hazy memories of the Dragonball Z anime series center around overwrought, multi-episode fights against an escalating series of bloated villains, and how many of those episodes were largely filled with posturing, shouting, and more posturing. Or maybe I'm thinking of this year's election.  Anyway, Dragonball: Evolution didn't live up to any of this, even though it had James Marsters playing Hannit... er, Piccolo.

This lightweight, dopey movie (seriously, it makes Legend of Chun-Li look like it has gravitas) is perfect riffing fodder, and Quiptracks has a great time with it.  Terrific funny lines and observations of the film's many gaping lapses in logic, talent, and basic coherence--highly recommended!
