They've got Scorsese waiting tables? Could this hate hate movies more?

I knew you would like that line. I wrote that and I was like "That's such a Ryan joke"

My coworker Chris watched the Hor-Riff-ic Productions riff of Leprechaun a few weeks ago and he loved it.

I watched the premier live performance of the new Hor-Riff-ic Productions riff of PHATASM last night! It was a blast, and I am definitely looking forward to the recorded version. It's definitely dense with riffs, but given the overall slow pace of this movie there is plenty of dead air to cover. So they still didn't talk over dialog to prevent you from being able to understand what is going on. The movie does that for you.

My favorite joke was probably the "and you're an unlikable character" song. Also, "EXTREME GREAVING!"

They said it'll be a month or so before they get the recorded version out for sale, what with work and their baby and everything. But when it does come out I highly recommend it.

I got a hankerin' for some shorter works a couple weeks ago, so I watched these over the course of a week or so...

Back Row with Mister X - Johnny Sokko and his Flying Robot - "Dracolon: The Great Sea Monster" – Generally funny riff, though I found myself enjoying the show even more. It's one of the ones that I’d see on TV on weekday afternoons in the 70s and had hazy memories of, along with Ultraman and Godzilla (news flash: I’m old).

The Soliloquist - 3 shorts (Cindy Goes to a Party, Safety Patrol, Narcotics) – Some solidly entertaining solo shorts riffs.

Eagle, Beagle, and Seagull - 4 shorts (Good Table Manners, In Our Hands: How to Lose What We Have, Make Mine Freedom, Perversion for Profit) – These were fun as well. "Perversion for Profit" was a longer version than one I previously watched (riffed by Puppyknob).

Ralph and Rick Resent: "Freedom Highway" – I've enjoyed R&Rs riffing, but this one was just sort of 'okay' for me. Not so much for the riffing itself, which was good, but for the movie, which wasn't so much 'good' or 'bad' as 'mind-peelingly dull'.

Quiptracks - Star Trek: Voyager - "Eye of the Needle" – Ok, first time rewatching a Voyager episode in a long time. I was thinking, "You know, I bet it's not as bad as I remember." I was wrong. So wrong. But the riffing got me through it, and that's what counts.

Puppyknob - 2 shorts (Habit Patterns, Perversion for Profit) -- Funny, if slightly crude, riffing of a couple shorts.  The version of Perversion for Profit here is about half as along as the one EB&S did.

Recently watched Cinester Theater's Child's Play.  Kills me beyond measure to say how great they did, we don't have done any better ourselves. Give it a watch sometime.

Star Trek: Voyager season 2 episode 1, "The 37s" - So it's been quite a while since I watched the Voyager episodes with the iRiffs, and I remember the show being REEEEALLY bad. And boy has that not changed one bit. Even with this being the season opener they don't splurge at all. I wonder if the first season having such lackluster reviews and rating made the studio more cautious.

Ryan,
As always, thanks a ton for reviewing in public. YAY PEOPLE KNOW US.

I just thought I'd comment here & let you know that they actually filmed TWENTY episodes for season 1, so this was NOT originally intended to be the s2 opener. They moved some of the episodes around, but ... with no apparent rhyme or reason.  I believe the original end order to s1 was:

Learning Curve (that's ep 16)
Projections
Elogium
Twisted
The 37's.

Sooooo, this WAS supposed to be the season ENDER, I guess, which is why they put it at the beginning of s2?

Why wasn't Cold Fire (the Caretaker's mate!) or Maneuvers (Seska returns!) made the opening of s2?  Like, as much as I detest nearly everything about the show, if you're a fan, don't EITHER of those sound more exciting as a s2 opener?  Who knows.

Also, amusing side note: Every line you picked as a favorite was written by not-me. Heh.

I just finished watching
Frozen (by Cinester Theater)
and also Pretty Woman by them but I have less to say about that

I haven't seen Frozen since it was in theaters, and my contempt for it has only grown. I was surprised to see that the screenplay only had one writer, because the script and song list are so pieced together. Meanwhile Zootopia had 3? 5? Go figure. Anyway, this was a highly enjoyable riff, despite its relative sparseness. I didn't take notes, but I remember loving the Daryl-the-Guard-from-Earlier running gag, "Human eyebrows?", "With fixin's." (the whole exchange, but this sold it), and I can't quite remember the exact line but something like "What I say, bitch?" coming from Olaf, with that particular facial expression worked really well. There were definitely some moments that begged for a line but had nothing, but overall the pacing worked. We at QuipTracks are definitely more towards the "fill every second" side of the spectrum, but I'm starting to appreciate the more laid back approach.

Pretty Woman was also enjoyable, but we only caught a fraction of it because it was late, we were *ahem* inebriated, and the reauthor was mixed so that the jokes were screaming while the movie was barely audible. Thankfully the plot is so simple as to be practically nonexistent, so we weren't lost. I definitely liked all the jokes about Gere's lamp collection, because goddamn, the man has a problem.

From what I've heard, Disney ordered rewrites on Frozen because having one of the sisters be the villain would hurt her toy sales.

If that's why they went with the sisterly-love angle, then we can thank them for the only interesting twist of the movie.

Turkey Shoot with Scott Zee: Shorts (Alcohol is Dynamite, Fire! Patty Learns What to Do, Santa Claus' Punch and Judy, Squeak the Squirrel) -- Watched these shorts recently (along with the shorts on his Dailymotion page), and laughed throughout.  (No, *you’re* the one watching a Christmas short in June. Shut up.)

Quiptracks: "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow" -- I have a lot of affection for this movie, despite its flaws. (In fact, I’m not sure I’d love the movie as much as I do if it was less flawed, or flawed in some different, less Golden Agey way, if that makes any sense.)  Because of this I approached watching it with this riff with some trepidation, but found instead it was as fun watching with the riffing as without.

Hor-Riff-Ic: "Frogs" -- This, on the other hand, was an unequivocably bad movie. I remember watching it once, long ago, and wondering how the filmmakers could make an hour and a half feel so long.  The riffing is great, though—made the movie go much quicker this time.

Watched the riffs of Stephen King's 'IT' (part one by Cinester Theater, part two by Hor-Riff-Ic) not too long ago, and laughed all the way throughout.  Kudos to both crews!  TV miniseries don't age well, do they?

I recently went back and re-watched DogKnob presents The Trollenberg Terror (a.k.a. The Crawling Eye) VOD. Seems to me this is greatly underrated. Yes the humor drifts to the juvenile at times but in the end, it's a very witty riff of a low budget classic that really isn't as bad as people make it out to be.

There are many funny bits. After Janet Munro's character is almost choked to death her sister quips "I warned her 'harder' was a terrible safe word" I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the montage after the closing credits which is quite funny. It's one of the few riffs I know I'll watch again periodically.

Overall I'd put this in my top 5 or 10 riffs. Right up there with Drawback Productions' Fast Five, Ice on Mars Lizzie McGuire, and the best from Quiptracks and Hor-RIFF-ic.

FireRiffs new iRiff of Amazing Spider-Man - I enjoyed this. The jokes are definitely good and varied. I like his riff density. His vocal performance is average. It's a fun sit. I just wish he had at least one other person to riff with so the voice would vary, and he could banter.
I preferred his riff of Incredible Hulk, but I am partial to that one because I helped write for it, and I genuinely enjoy that movie, so I'm a bit biased. Amazing Spider-Man really lends itself to riffing. I hope he does the sequel too. And although the movie is a bit long, the riff helps with that.

Definitely worth a purchase HERE. Or you can ask for it for free HERE until the end of the month.

I like the running gag about the celebrity porn drawings. And telling Gwen the shut up.

Sudden Onset Krav Maga Syndrome

Ohh, he's Shia LeBeaufing.

Thanks for reviewing and I'm glad you liked it!  Wasn't sure whether people would find the drawings gag funny or just bizarre; especially since I made a point of picking the most absurd celebrities for someone to make those drawings of.  I'll probably do the sequel eventually but right now I'm not sure I can sit through another Spider-Man movie 12 seconds at a time.
About a second riffer.  I actually have an idea for a character to be a second riffer but I need the right movie to introduce him with.  Without saying who/what the character is I will say that it needs to be a movie that involves toys.  If you, or anyone else for that matter, has a good suggestion please let me know.  Ideally it would be a movie that hasn't been done yet and not a comedy.  This character will feed into my on going theme of self deprecating riffs in a big and strange way.
