Neat Back to the Future Articles
« on: December 06, 2006, 02:53:16 PM »
While waiting for a project to render, I stumbled upon some really neat "Back to the Future" articles written by Bruce Gordon for Starlog.

Many fans may have already read them, but I found them interesting enough to post on our forum.

Items the articles point out:
- How dimension hopping is actually accurately displayed in both BTTF I and II
- How BTTF III ruined the movies' mythos

Good to geek out on when waiting for videos to render ;)

I wish they would release all the Eric Stoltz as Marty McFly footage.  That would be really interesting to see.

From BTTF.com:

Here's some pictures of Stoltz as Marty McFly from the original filming of BTTF:

And while we are on the subject of BTTF, Tom Wilson would be an excellent guest riffer if they were to ever tackle one of these films.

Well-- yeah, but that still doesn't explain what happened to that extra Crow left in the Wisconsin cheese factory.

Am I the only one who didn't know this? I love BTTF but I never knew Michael J. Fox was cast second.  I can't imagine the movie without him.  Now I'm going to have to pop in the DVD and watch for scenes where it's the other guy.  I've seen this movie a million times and never noticed.

I so want a hoverboard :-)

Good to geek out on when waiting for videos to render ;)

I'll have to ponder his whole Mart II theory a little more, because at times it makes a lot of sense... especially considering the future Jennifer and Marty of part two. But there's a lot that just doesn't sit right or that hinges on some made-up alternate actions that a character might have taken.

For example, he thinks that since Doc knew that the terrorists were coming that he would have put extra plutonium in the time machine for Marty II (so he wouldn't get stuck in 1955). But if he were going to do that, why would he even bring Marty II to the parking lot... or even show up there in the first place?

And if Marty II still managed to jump back to 1955, then immediately return, he would still be returning to the "Hip Reality" because the original Marty would still have arrived after him and affected the timeline, right?

Actually, i guess the real question is "Why do i care so much about Back To The Future anyway?"

It's simple.. it happened because it was always ment to happen that way.  Because of causeality, Doc had to create the exact circumstances though his action or inaction to arrive at the same results.  In movie two they really hammered the whole "evil alternative reality" thing that is touched on with Marty's "new life" at the end of BTTF1.

The biggest flaw in BTTF logic is the following...

Since Doc and Marty where in the normal time stream when the event of Biff from 2015 taking the book back to 1955, they should have immediately merged with this new time.  Which means the Doc and Marty that go back to 1955 to take the book away from Biff could not possibly exist.

But again... it's just a movie...

I think the real interesting thing would be to know how Doc and Marty "met" for the first time.  Did Doc stalkwatch the McFly family and wait to casually introduce himself to a young Marty McFly earning his trust so that one day his young friend would save his life?  That's worth at least 20 websites of fanfic...

I think that in an alternate timeline Doc Brown turned into a Batman kind of character and Marty was his Robin.

But you know, that is a wierd point I had never thought of. If Marty was a nerdy, science club guy it would NOT make sense that he would be hanging around Doc Brown, local genius scientist. Marty was actually portrayed a normal if rebellious kid, obviously well known as being a slacker in school, implying poor grades, absenteeism, and lack of respect for athority. In fact, with the introduction of the whole 'don't call me chicken' in the sequels, it was probably true that he was in a lot of fights and other problems.

Maybe Marty mows Doc's grass and Doc used the whole 'come inside, sweaty young boy and have some lemonade routine' so see a young Michael J Fox shirtless....

There's a hook for some scalding BTTF slash fic!

I feel so dirty now...

Grapes? I hate grapes, I can't stand grapes. I loathe grapes. All kinds of grapes. I hate green grapes and I hate purple grapes. I hate grapes with seeds, I hate grapes without seeds. I hate them peeled and nonpeeled. I hate them in bunches, one at a time and in small groups of twos and threes.
