Fox will give in.  It's not Futurama without the same voice actors.

I think Fox will give in because it's the fans that brought it back and made it profitable.  If you dick around with the people who are the ones giving you money, then you're in trouble.
*cough*Transformers*cough*

I think the difference there is the time in between the zenith of the popularity between the two properties.  Transformers as an entirely new generation to appeal to, and can get away with changes to its format and cast, while Futurama is popular right now, and appeals directly to those who like it because of what its doing now.

This sort of implies a rational thought-process, mrba. I'm not sure we have that here. I'm not even being sarcastic--I think this is a case of 'aren't giant mechanical spiders awesome' going on in the producers' heads.

*sigh* You're probably right.

Well, from the blogs I've read the actors didn't show up for the comic con panel.

According to one post they were un-invited.

I mean it if I were CC I would sue Fox.  They paid for the show and then Fox goes and makes sure that it will lose the fan base,I would be hoping mad if I were in charge of CC.

that would be this one

Maurice LaMarche posted a link on Facebook to this petition...so either he's playing along with the publicity stunt, or he's unaware.

Here's hoping it really is all just a publicity stunt, a way to get a crapload of buzz about the show coming back without spending a cent on advertising.

Well according to Groening, it's just a matter of the network and the voice actors coming to an agreement.

The network would be insane not to cave, but I'm sure they'll draw it out to try to drive down those salaries.

As someone who isn't a huge superfan of Futurama (I like it swell when it's on, though), this puzzles me in the same way that the new Buffy movie puzzles me.  If the only reason this show is coming back is because of the fans, why the hell would you do something that will only serve to piss said fans right the fuck off?  They've just alienated everyone who wanted to watch the show in the first place.  And if they think the fanboys will just watch the show anyway, they're sorely mistaken.  Nearly every fan I've seen comment on this story in blogs and news articles all over the Internet has said that they will no longer watch the show.

Hey, it worked for Ron Moore's Battlestar Galatica.  They used the show name instead of a completely new series name so they could suck in old fans ... and then he did everything humanly possible to piss off those same old hardcore fans.  And it worked.  They had good ratings and every critic on the planet was lining up to give him long slow blowjobs for his genius.

Fox is getting their panties in a bunch over $75,000 per episode?  Geeze.  Voice actors on The Simpsons get $400,000 per episode.  Top stars of some network live action sitcoms like Frasier, Friends, and Seinfeld commanded a cool $1,000,000 per episode?  And FOX thinks $75,000 is gonna break the bank?

But as I said before this is for a show Fox never wanted to make in the first place.

The only reason it ever got greenlit was because they wanted to keep Groening happy, but now they have McFarlen to do all of their animated shows for them and he does them quicker and cheaper so they really want to find a way to get rid of Groening.

That is what this is about them wanting to get rid of both Futurama and The Simpsons.  Mark my words this is all about putting Mcfarlen in charge of all of Fox's tv animation.

The reason why there's a disout eabout the actors' wages is that apparently the only feasible way to bring back the show on a regular basis is with a drastically reduced budget.  Voice talent is probably the biggest expense on that show, so they're trying to get that down.  It's not unreasonable, but it does seem kinda pointless.

If Fox is going the cheap route, I'm worried about getting the writers back more than even the voice actors. If Fox just uses hack writers they've used before, even having the voice actors back will not prevent this from becoming a steaming pile.
