The new Simpson's movie will be great (despite what somethingawful thinks)
- also i heard mention of "new" futurama, I've yet to here anything beyond net rumours, is there something I'm missing, is this official yet?

It is official, but it's still a little cloudy as to whether it will be new episodes, straight-to-video feature lengths movies, both, or what. Futurama is definitely coming back in some form, though. WOO-HOO!

I read that they are making 4 movies on DVD and Comedy Central will be airing them as episodes in 2008 when they get the rerun rights to the rest of the series.

Yeah, something like 13 actual episodes?  So if you do the math, that's...260 minutes, which is about 4 hours and 20 mins, yes?

I'm just wondering how that = 4 "movies".

Considering the late release time for the series, these movies can be easily adapted into three episodes each.  And I'm sure that the direct to DVD movies would have been just over an hour.  This will leave one episode at the end to conclude the season/series.

Grapes? I hate grapes, I can't stand grapes. I loathe grapes. All kinds of grapes. I hate green grapes and I hate purple grapes. I hate grapes with seeds, I hate grapes without seeds. I hate them peeled and nonpeeled. I hate them in bunches, one at a time and in small groups of twos and threes.

While Epic Movie looks bad, has anyone seen the trailer to Norbit?  It's Eddie Murphy's latest "masterpiece".

300 = I have to admit that I hadn't heard of this but it looks bad... I'll give it a shot still because sin city was so great (Robert Rodriguez & tarrentino can do "almost" no wrong, miller on the other hand?)

Miller isn't directing.  It's Zach Snyder, who did the rather snazzy remake of Dawn of the Dead.

Oh, then it definitely will suck.

Well it's been different things at different times. The first word was that there'd be straight to DVD movies. THEN we found out that Comedy Central was picking it up as a regular show.

The question is whether the movies were scrapped in favor of an ongoing series, or they're gonna be the same thing, or we're getting both. :^)

Aint it cool news had a script review sometime back concerning the first of the four movies.  It revolved around bender being the only retained employee of Planet Express after its bought out and he spends the rest of the movie robbing things throughout time (a la Time Bandits).

My guess is this is it, and it will be in 30-minute episode bites on Comedy Central.

I trust AICN these days as far as I can throw 'em. They're slower than all the other movie / geek sites, and their script reviews are not always the ones that make it to production. I would just say, read that review with a grain of salt. It was from August and from what I recall, things were more or less changing every day up until much more recently.

What I have heard, is basically what Pakky said. It's really 4 movies, sliced into 4 episodes apiece. Comedy Central will be the first to air them (and I'd imagine maybe Fox getting syndication rights, but who knows.).  All in all it's been pretty quiet on the news front. I generally check www.gotfuturama.com as they seem to be on top of things the moment they're out. Which, as I mentioned, hasn't been that much lately.

I don't care what Futurama comes back as as long as it just comes back. Hopefully The Simpsons Movie will be successful enough to maybe make a Futurama feature film look possible. I know it's unlikely, but Futurama, much more than The Simpsons, could easily carry a feature.

That was about as funny as a skit on Studio 60.

A perfect put-down. Sadly, I might add. I really had high hopes for SSotSS, but it just keeps finding new ways of disappointing me.

The trailer doesn't do it much justice, although it is chuckle-worthy... but oddly enough I think the Simpsons Movie will be pretty funny. It seems they've recruited some writers from earlier seasons, and I have seen some unfinished clips (I think they were premiered at Comic Con) and they are actually funnier than 90% of the last 5 seasons. I will admit though that even a few of the more recent episodes have had a good share of laughs in them. Believe it or not!

I liked the bit of the trailer with Moe and the CGI bunny, but the endless Homer getting squished was a little too Family Guy. Not that I don't like Family Guy, or gratuitous cartoon violence, but that's not what made The Simpsons great. It was being smart and stupid at the same time that made The Simpsons a landmark comedy.
