Okay, if I'm going to spend money seeing this in theaters I have one requirement.

Future trailers need to show me 1 shot that isn't a recreation of the original movie. I get this teaser is designed to hit the nostalgia center of our brain, but I want to know there is something new involved. I already have The Lion King sitting on my shelf. I can watch it any time I want. New CGI and a different vocal cast saying the same lines are not enough.

I feel like Disney has crossed a line, here. Up until now, they've been able to claim that they're doing "Live-Action Remakes." I haven't seen any of them. Hear they're awesome. But there's a certain novelty there. An attempt to retell an animated classic with human actors.

Unless they found some really weird looking trained animals, this is not a live action remake. It's a CGI-Remake, which I feel is WAY less necessary. Especially when you're dealing with a film as beautiful as the Lion King. Remakes should be an attempt to overcome technical hurdles that existed when the movie was made. The Lion King was in no way hindered by the inability to see every hair on Simba's head. I can show The Lion King to my son and he's not going to say, "Ugh, these old cartoons are so UGLY."

Yeah it was pretty clear that even the landscape was CGI, so it wasn't even like animated animals over real locations. It's a bit weird.

If they were actually honest with us and called it a CGI Remake, I would at least respect them for that.

I think that was more misreporting than anything.  I don't recall Disney ever calling it live-action themselves.

*sigh* It's bad enough all these UNNECESSARY live action remakes are being made, but why do talented filmmakers like Jon Favreau have to keep wasting their time with them? He could be making much more interesting original movies instead.
I haven't seen all of them, but looking at the list of movies he's made, I see maybe 2 or 3 "original" movies.

Those who know me know I'm not particularly big on American animation. I also am not a fan of the original Lion King. I saw this trailer during the oscars the other night and said to myself "Huh... this looks like a must-see for me.".

Ah yes, what better music to play over your movie’s father/son moment than “Can You Feel the Love Tonight?”.
