He was a troll. Of googergeiger proportions.

Anyways, - TORSO! RRoD? Man, that sucks... I hope that doesn't ever happen to my Halo 3 edition :(

So is the 360 the most defective thing ever sold?

No. People just have short memories.

The original Xbox had problems with its DVD drive. So did the early PS2s. The early GameBoy Advanced had an un-back lit screen that was unreadable under anything but direct lighting. The original NES sometimes didn't work if you didn't blow on the cartridge...

Want a more recent example? Ask the folks with a copy of Rock Band if their drums and/or guitar are still working. I'm fairly certain that both units have a much higher failure rate than the 360, and they're just hunks of plastic.

Well I managed to play the GBA fine and it turned on.

The Ps2 and Xbox fixed their drives after a year.

The NES still worked 90 percent of the time.

The Xbox 360 is the only system i can think of that just stops working at the drop of a hat and the $400 is a complete write off.

...

I've only had my 360 for a coupla' days and you guys are scaring the hell outta' me! Seriously though, i plugged my system into it's own socket, put it upright on the floor next to my entertainment cabinet, and completely moved everything in my living room to give it half a foot clearance in all directions.

If it overheats and dies now, there's no way it'll be my fault. Except for the fact that i wrapped it in blankets to help keep the noise down, but that shouldn't matter right?  ;)

The newer 360's have better cooling and has a cooler running 65nm chip. I believe the first line of 360's were released with 90nm. As long as you have it placed in a well ventilated area and don't keep it running 24/7 I wouldn't worry too much about it, Rude.

Does microsoft charge for fixing your 360?

I want to get one but everyone I talk to who has one is on their second or third one and it has only been out for three years so i'm scared.

Rude, I have a launch unit and it's still running fine. (Knock on wood) My personal opinion is that the folks who are having 4 or 5 RROD'd boxes have something other than the unit itself causing the problems.

And Doc, no, they don't charge you for most repairs. (With exceptions. I read on another forum about a person whose cat decided to, shall we say,  water his unit. That's not covered by Microsoft's usual warranty.)

I'd say it's time to take that cat out behind the barn.

My unit was manufactured 08/06. From what I have read everything after summer of 07 is the newer cooler chip and there really aren't any problems.  My issue right now is getting to stay at the RROD so M$ will fix it for free.  I just know if I send it in and they fire it up and it doesn't red ring then they are just going to ship it back to me without fixing anything. I am thinking about wrapping a few blankets around it for a few hours and see what happens....  ;D

Yeah I think the Halo versions are the cooler chipset as well.. Falcon? Is that right? I forget now, I'll have to go look at my box at home :)

From here: http://xbox360.qj.net/Red-ring-sighted-on-Halo-3-limited-Xbox-360-consoles/pg/49/aid/103743

Quote
It didn't take very long for first reports of the infamous Halo Red Ring of Death (RRoD) to infect the newly released Halo 3 limited edition Xbox 360 consoles. Despite Microsoft's assurances that the new 65nm CPU/GPU (the Falcon chipset) would reduce cases of the RRoD, the image above shows evidence contrary to this statement.

The main problem was said to lie in the overheating of the GPU. There were also speculations that not all of the limited edition consoles had the supposed Falcon chipset. Either way, this does nothing to change the fact that Microsoft's console is still plagued with a host of hardware problems.

This was hardly the first time that reports of the RRoD has spoiled gamers' experience with this next gen console. Hopefully, Microsoft will be able to provide a truly permanent solution to their console's limitations.

I got my 360 a few months ago (manufacturing date was 2/26/08), and I too live in fear of the RROD.  I try to keep it dust-free and well-ventilated, but I've had it freeze on me a couple times - both times while playing Uno, for some reason - and each time I got a knot in my stomach.

I honestly don't remember ever hearing about this much hardware failure for a console as I have this generation.  I've had a PS2 since 2001, logged a ton of hours on it, and it still works fine.  I've had to pop it open a few times to clean the lens and do some general tweaking when it has trouble reading discs, but once I do that it always works well again.  And I bet I could go to my parents' house, plug in my SNES, or even my NES, and both would be fully functional.  Especially the SNES.  Didn't even have to blow in the cartridges for that one.

Yay good to be back -stays away from chat room-

A troll usualy hides under a bridge to attack random people who cross it. If anything I am the guy watching for trolls with a bat in my hand. Unfortunetly the trolls won because calling me hitler was more civilized then me calling them racist assholes. And somehow attacking the person personaly won over arguments that could of been civilized if the other person knew what was civilized was. I say im for something then im called Stalin over and over without any real logic. So why shouldnt I be jerk to those moron? Anyways I wont be going to that chat room anymore aslong as I have my forum rights.
And If I get banned again I won't support rifftrax because of a Bias shown on the message boards and chat rooms that would get people banned for having a opposite opinion and/or favoritism shown towards certain people that in any argument they would threaten banning over the stupid things. Pst dont make fun of the cow.

My xbox360 fixed itself, with a little help.

WHAT I DID: I removed the power cord from the xbox and the power supply. Shot everything down with a can of computer cleaner. Even cleaned the connections with a Q-tip. And waited 24 hours. I woke up with a idea to try it again. It worked and since then it has been working better then ever.

BUT I do like how Xbox lives up to the warranty and are willing to pay for shipping both ways to get your system repaired. Even though, like someone said before, a 400$ system shouldnt be acting this way. My 500$ system (damn expensive hardrive) shouldnt be acting this way either!

My 360 got the rings about a year and a half ago. I was so mad. I waited a couple of weeks, hoping that it would just go away on its own :D. It didn't. So I finally called up Microsoft, they were extremely nice and they sent me the box and I shipped it off. Got it back about two weeks later and it's worked fine since then.
