Mafia - Future game ideas etc

OK to stop the purgatory thread from getting clogged up i thought it might be useful to decamp all the discussions about theams and the like to a new thread.

Have at it :)

See I'd be up for Jane Austen's Mafia, if somebody could work out how to do that. :)

I call Al Swearengen for Western mafia, with the understanding that I would be able to swear to my heart's content in the game.

I really think it's just up to the GM of the game to decide what theme they want.  I like it better when it's a surprise.  I wish I had refrained from stating the current theme until after people signed up.  Plus the theme really isn't that crucial to the game.  I dislike how people are using fake theme based reasoning to vote for people instead of using logic and observation.  Just my two cents.

Well yes, but it seems people like talking about it and it was filling up the purgatory thread.

Incidentally I've already thought of the "people acting out of character, they must be mafia" reasoning in my game and I think it'll be nullified.

Agreed.

I could do without the role-playing aspect altogether.  It's sort of fun in its own right, but not very mafia-ey.

Thirded.

As much fun as it would be to host a Hollywood-themed Mafia game, I've been staying out of most of the role-playing Mafia games.  I took part in the MST3k one, sure, but that's only because I chose somebody who had no personality.  One downside to the games is that it scares away people who don't know the themes of the games that well (like, say, me), and people tend to vote based on how well they can roleplay a character.  Namely, "Leela voted off Nibbler!  She'd never do that!  I vote for Leela!"

The roleplaying thing works great for the first few rounds, when it makes grasping at straws more entertaining, anyway.  But as the game drags on?  Naaaaah.

It possible that people are using fake theme based reasoning to camoflauge their logic and observation.

Agreed.  But I'd rather play a theme-based game than not at all.

I don't see any legitimate reason why we have to confine ourselves to one game at a time.  Perhaps we need two... a themed game and a regular one.

I enjoy the RP aspects for the recent games.  To me the people who go over the top with their playing adds to the game.

I agree that it could be a little more interesting to have a theme (such as Monsters) rather then shows.

I'd like a Movie Monsters Mafia game.

Would that include slasher "monsters" such as Jason Vorhees and Michael Myers?  If so, I'd really like to see this theme happen.

EDIT - Yes, I realize that both of these characters are mute but there are still creative ways one could use them in a Mafia game.
