Favorite national anthem (besides your own country's)?
« on: August 12, 2008, 04:50:05 AM »
Of the many traditions of the Olympic Games, there is none that inspires patriotism quite like the playing of the gold medalist's national anthem during the medal ceremony.  Sometimes it's almost enough to make me tear up to hear them play "The Star Spangled Banner."

But it's also an educational experience.  When the U.S. doesn't win, I get to hear what the anthems of other countries sound like.  Many of them I'm already familiar with (i.e. "O Canada" and "God Save the Queen").  Still, there aren't many that I actually enjoy hearing.  But there are a few that I can genuinely say "Hey, nice job, um...anthem-picking people."

Personally, my favorite is the Italian national anthem.  It's spirited, rousing, and uniquely Italian-sounding.  Which ones (if any) do you like?
Correction: the coat hanger should be upside down.
