At five episodes in, season 1 is really good. What you guys have said is basically what I've been hearing all over - season 1 was great, but it just petered out after that.

The first season was definately the best, but even a mediocre season was worth watching.    I am hopefully for the upcoming season.

I had given up on Heroes during this past season, only to eventually watch the last half dozen episodes on the NBC website. I'm coming back when the show returns, but it will have a short leash. Things have been pretty much directionless since the end of the first season, with the main plot line of show getting rebooted once every 10-12 episodes. It's still an entertaining enough ride, but it's strikingly similar to Prison Break. While it was pretty obvious that Prison Break was going to be creatively bankrupt once the guys, you know, actually broke out of the damn prison... I'm surprised that Heroes dropped so quickly after the promise that was a great first season.

I think the majority's thoughts are pretty clearly expressed in the entirely of this thread, but in short: It starts well enough, but seemed to actively shy away from greatness and then it just threw everything down the crapper.  :)  Part of season two isn't bad, but it just wastes all of its potential.  Bryan Fuller coming back to the show might've helped, but he's gone on to another show now, and Claire is going lesbian in the new series, which smacks of desperation.

Here is how it went for me. I blind bought Season 1 on HD-DVD about 3 weeks before season 2 started. I loved it I watched it within a week.  Heroes season 2 started. The first six episodes I thought were pretty bad compared to Season 1 but it picked up a little bit for the second half. Season 3 started. The entire season was just awful.  It took me 3 tries to get through the last episode.  I then sold my HD-DVD for season 1 and my blu-ray of season 2 as I will never watch the show again off air.

I'm not sure if I even finished season 2.
