Like that? Try this

Well it's sort of a game, and it's sort of a public service.

What happens is one poster says something they like; a food, a band, a writer, whatever it is the next poster suggests something that's a bit like it and which the first poster might enjoy if they try it. This is sort of what many bookshops and record stores do (and pretty much waht amazon does, with erratic success).

So for example:

Poster one: I like Thai Food

Poster two: Try Indian Food
                      I like the band Garbage

Poster three: Try the band Curve

and so on and so forth, thought it'll be more fun with a bit more information provided like why do you like that thing or why do you thing the suggestion is like the previous posting.

So

I like the Sherlock Holmes stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, I like the intellectual nature of the characters and the milleux in which they are set.

Try House, M.D., as Greg House is modeled after Sherlock Holmes.
I like The Beach Boys, particularly their post-sun and fun stuff from the late 60's and early 70's.

Try Man or Astroman?, a band whos early CDs has the Beach Boys influence

I like diesel powered BMW 1-series cars that you can't get in America, which are surprisingly better on gas than the Honda hybrid.

Try the Mitsubishi Lancer. Great mileage, the best warranty around, and half the price of a hybrid.

I like comedian David Cross
If there was a transformer that was a hybrid, do you think the other Autobots would make fun of him or be envious?

Try A Bit of Fry and Laurie for a good blend of the intelligent and the absurd.

I like Cormac McCarthy's Border Trilogy: All the Pretty Horses, The Crossing and Cities on the Plain.

I love The Verve's 2nd album A Northern Soul

I have and I do.  I cried even as I had to re-read the chapters over and over.

Back to yours.

Check out the album, "Giant Steps" by The Boo Radleys. In an era owned by Blur, Oasis and the Verve, the Boo have been overlooked.

I like parakeets. Cute low maintanence birds, funny in groups.

Ever eaten anything you have killed?

Ummm... I think you have the wrong thread.  Now you are supposed to say what you like.

I really like Frank Black, the Catholics and the Pixies.

You should watch the movie version or listen to the cast recording of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, the greatest punk musical of all time.  There's also an album done for charity of cover versions of the songs called Wig In a Box with separate contributions from The Breeders and Frank Black.

I really like Fables, the comic book.

Try Top Ten by Alan Moore.  It's about a city where everyone is a super-hero, villain, alien, god or any other kind of creature you find in a comic.  It has super-powers but the feel is more similar to NYPD Blue, Hill Street Blues and other cop dramas.

I love John Carpenter's the Thing.

Try John Carpenter's Halloween. One of the best old school horror movies, in my opinion.

I like sirloin steak, prepared medium-well.

Try Bison, it's lower in bad fat and often tastier than beef.

I miss playing rugby but living in the US I find it difficult to find a team to play on. So I like rugby since it;'s a good work out and physically much more demanding than soccar.

Try Football (North American edition), which is a lot like Rugby, but a little less rigorous and a bit more stopping.  I guess it seems obvious, but it should easy to find a club in the US.

I'm a big fan of Dr. Who (both series).  Any other shows with a mix of sci-fi wonder and whimsy that you can recommend?
