Personally rvr I'm in the same boat half of me wants to get a sound bar system and use that for now then move it to my room once I get an actual receiver. My last one was a pioneer w all pioneer speakers and I will probably get another one that is "3D ready" since it just means it is a higher/newer standard of hdmi. The one I want also does internet radio and I can hook my ipod to it so that is a plus...when I get home I'll post some links. As for the sub amp idk if its necessary now a days, but who knows...oh and I shall be having a record player attached to it so I beat out your cassette player ;)

WUT-EVAH!! :o

Just finished unloading the 100 disc CD changer/player in preps for pulling it out of service..

I'll probably start on removing the big speakers (and removing salvageable parts; tweeters & mid-range speakers, to sell on eBay or Craig's list) as well as swapping out Pioneer receivers soon.. 8)

Might as well bump this thread for the last time (hopefully) as I think I am finished upgrading all that I want to upgrade ..

I managed to salvage the rest of my Cerwin Vega surround sound speakers minus the monster bass speakers, upgraded from my old 46" RCA projection TV to that Vizio 55" TruLED HDTV I wanted! I even made a video bout it. Wanna See It?! Heuh it iz.. 8)
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/_s8owJN6eHs" target="_blank" class="new_win">http://www.youtube.com/v/_s8owJN6eHs</a>
I was forced to upgrade my cable box to HD for an extra $12.95 per month, but after seeing the difference, I can live with that..

And as of last night, I replaced my 32" Vizio LCD HDTV with a 42" Vizio LCD HDTV in the bedroom  ;D
Only issue was finding some screws for my wall mount as there was none provided with the TV but I found 4 different types with the correct fine thread pattern that worked out perfectly.
And the 32" I boxed up and put in my 2001 Durango for the upcoming road trip to Mexico where it will be sold to my brother in law for $300 8)

I was also able to eliminate a lot of old RCA cables in the process by switching the HD receivers over to HDMI cables! So much simpler :o

The big drawback for me with going to HDMI through the receiver is that I can't watch blu rays without having the receiver on.  I even took a step away from that with my DVD player and just sent the HDMI straight to the TV, and then did an RCA hookup into the receiver if I -want- to have the music going in there, simply because I don't always want to have the receiver on.
Yeah, actually both of my TV setups are hooked up differently..

The living room 55", I ran a HDMI from the HD cable box directly to the TV and connected the 'Audio Out' on the TV to my receiver for surround sound but had to leave one set of those Red, Green, Blue RCA's (no idea what the standard name is for those) connected from the TV to the DVD player, and still have one set of RCA's for the non HD satellite receiver (video to the TV and audio to the surround sound receiver) for the wife's Spanish channels..

The bedroom 42" has a HD satellite receiver connected to the TV with a HDMI, a cable TV line from the wall directly to the TV (no cable box), and a set of Red, Green, Blue RCA's connecting the DVD to the TV and the 'Audio Out' on the TV connected to the bedroom receiver..

Remembering the setups for each TV remote control is gonna be the tough part now :-\

Yeah, when I go to my brother's house I have to have him set up the remotes. He has about 7, and has a DVD player, a BD player, a roku, stereo, and cable all hooked up in weird different ways.
Fuck! And I thought fighting with 5 was bad! (TV, Pioneer receiver, DVD, cable box, and satellite receiver) :scared:

the red, green and blue plugs are called "component composite" if i am not mistaken while the yellow video plug is component.  also, there are some cheap universal remotes out there that would take care of the problem of mass remotes for you.  i however, would not mind having an expensive one from logitech though :P

Yeah, I was gonna suggest the Logitech Harmony remotes. They can handle like anything.  And if it doesn't, you can "teach" it.  The higher end models also have touchscreens.

yeah the one i want has a touch screen and also costs more than the receiver i want...now if i had more than 2 or 3 things that needed remotes i would so get that :P.  you can even get one with an RF extender which means that your entertainment stuff can be in a cabinet or another room and not in the line of sight of traditional remotes.  there is also a bluetooth ps3 adapter as well.
