Title: RIFFTRAX PLAYOFFS HEAT 5
Post by: JonnyFrag on November 18, 2006, 03:54:25 AM
Heat 5 of 6
All campaign funds may be sent to me via PayPal at....

I ended up using 2 other movies from the old playoffs poll , one to make an nice even number and one because I had a mistake and listed a movie twice in my generator.
Pairings were randomized by a sequence generator, so some heats are more competitive than others, but I think was the fair way to do it. Besides, the non-winners this time can just be entered into the next playoffs.

Please vote, campaign, post yard signs whatever. Election day ends on Thanksgiving, and the winners will be advanced into the next round.

WOW, holy cow, I never would have thought that my personal nomination, Cool World, would make the list. Thanks! Here's the whole story of how the movie turned out to be such a piece of shit, in case anyone's interested:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cool_World#Conception_and_production (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cool_World#Conception_and_production)

Summary: It was originally written as an R-rated animated horror film, and then the studio turned it into whatever the hell the current film is today by having the original script scrapped and rewritten behind the director's back. There's some text at the bottom of that section in which the director bashes the movie heavily.

I hate this movie, but I'm a big fan of the director, so, I had my reservations about suggesting that it be put up for riffing. But since there's a lot of material that could be derived from the cast, I think this would make a good RiffTrax.

LOST IN SPACE

a Friends cast member as an ace pilot,  90's movie that is an adaption of a famous TV show, boy genius (every movie with a boy supergenius needs riffing, like SW1), and Gary Oldman

OMG, the waste of film that is Starship Troopers!  How did anyone ever get a budget approved for this stinkbomb anyway!?

When giant insects can launch nukes out of its anus and take out an entire starship, you know you're not getting your $9 refund back from the theater.

Although, it's a tie for me. Starship Troopers, in which lucious Dina Meyer gets whacked half-way through the film (she was one of the luckier ones), or Lost In Space which started okay, until half-way through when they introduced Jar-Jar's cousin from the other side of the galaxy.

CGI: gotta take the bitter with the sweet.

Starship Troopers is a comedy, I thought Mike wasn't going to do comedies.

Starship Troopers is a comedy

No, it isn't.

It's an unintentional comedy.

Please don't tell me the filmmakers thought they were actually creating something other than slick schlock*.

* Try saying that five times fast!  ;D

It's a comedy, it's also a sort-of sequel to Robocop.  It's a send up of propaganda films and American teen culture.
