Title: RIFFTRAX PLAYOFFS HEAT 4
Post by: JonnyFrag on November 18, 2006, 03:52:15 AM
Heat four of six.
Vote early, vote often! Well once anyway...

I ended up using 2 other movies from the old playoffs poll , one to make an nice even number and one because I had a mistake and listed a movie twice in my generator.
Pairings were randomized by a sequence generator, so some heats are more competitive than others, but I think was the fair way to do it. Besides, the non-winners this time can just be entered into the next playoffs.

Please vote, campaign, post yard signs whatever. Election day ends on Thanksgiving, and the winners will be advanced into the next round.

I had to vote for my own nomination.  Again, probably the least likely to be already in the Rifftrax pipeline and therefore the most deserving of your votes!

Vote for James Spader, Jon Cryer, Molly Ringwald, and Andrew Whatshisface!  Pretty In Pink in 2006!!!!

Temple of Doom.

Hmmm...

although my original entry is in this bracket (The Car), I know it's not going to get all that many votes, especially with its competition.

I'm going to have to go with Commando. It is just so rediculously over the top, and it's an 80s Cheesefest that tries to be serious. There's never been a more deserving movie!

Riff away!

I would die to see Flash Gordon done... god, it's so cheesy fun, and with a soundtrack by Queen, who loses?! :D

Ben Affleck needs a royal ass kicking by rifftrax (unless they want to tackle Gigli)

Ben has got a couple of movies in the playoffs this round. Does that say something about him?

Don't you guys see?  Indiana Jones was intentionally campy (right?).

Commando was NOT.  You gotta riff Commando.  Arnold's more unstoppable than a Sherman Tank in a field of wheat.  The way he single-handedly mows down that hapless LatinAmerican Army at the end....even the part where he gets trapped in a tool shed, dispatching about 5 well armed guerillas   using garden tools.  The one-liners are sick with unsubtlety.  There's that chubby Aussie bad guy who was once a much leaner mohawker in The Road Warrior- the fight at the end is worth the riff alone!  He gets electrocuted at one point which only energizes him more to mount a furious final attempt at our hulky hero!  Rae Dawn Chong?  A young Alyssa Milano?  Hilarious bad guys that all get their very own one-liner ("you're a funny guy Sully, I like you.  That's why I'm going to kill you last....)?  I'm letting off some steam like Bennett at the end, and I rest my case.

Well, seeing as Gigli was intended to be a comedy, I can't see it being considered as a future RiffTrax, as Mike has stated that he didn't want to riff comedies. I honestly think that there's not much room for riffing, anyway, aside from Christopher Walken's really crappy speech that makes absolutely no sense.

I thought Gigli's sole intent was to hurt people.

Commando.  It's one of my favourite crap movies.

I love how the British use "crap" as an adjective. I've been trying to use it that way myself, but people just look at me confused. Not that they ever don't look at me confused...

Heh, actually I thought that the movie wasn't awful, just really, really mediocre. However, it looks much worse than it actually is when you consider the fact that the director was also responsible for much better films like Scent of a Woman. When you put Gigli in with that film, it does look like a contender for worst movie ever made. But there are much, much, much worse films in existence, like Dwain Esper's Maniac or Howard the Duck.

I voted for Pretty In Pink. Whenever I see it on t.v. I can only get through a few minutes of it before I lunge for the remote in order to switch it off. Perhaps with Mike's help I'll be able to watch the whole thing.

Come on you guys! You're really going to pick Indiana Jones over Daredevil.  What did Harrison Ford ever do to deserve this? Now Affleck, he deserves to be riffed.

Vote Daredevil!!

Indy Jones is a good choice, but Flash is just goofy - but in a good way.

CON-AIR. Why?  The way  John Malcavich's character dies at the end is unforgivable. If I found out an eight year old wrote it, (directors son?) I might let it slide....... Just thinking about it is pissing me off! I wish i had a puppy to kick.                ps. "put down the bunnay"

Con-Air too...

I'm the one that suggested it, I must vote for it, and you do too, I mean just look at the cast!

Nicolas Cage ....  Cameron Poe

John Cusack ....  U.S. Marshal Vince Larkin

John Malkovich ....  Cyrus 'The Virus' Grissom

Ving Rhames ....  Nathan 'Diamond Dog' Jones

Nick Chinlund ....  William 'Billy Bedlam' Bedford

Steve Buscemi ....  Garland 'The Marietta Mangler' Greene

Colm Meaney ....  DEA Agent Duncan Malloy

Rachel Ticotin ....  Guard Sally Bishop

Dave Chappelle ....  Joe 'Pinball' Parker

 Mykelti Williamson ....  Mike 'Baby-O' O'Dell

Danny Trejo ....  Johnny 'Johnny-23' Baca

 M.C. Gainey ....  Swamp Thing

Thats right, Dave Chappelle and Steve Buscemi!

Movie lines? Heres a few gems:

--------------------------------

[Holding a gun up to the head of a stuffed pink bunny]
Cyrus Grissom: Make a move and the bunny gets it.

Cameron Poe: Put... the bunny... back... in the... box.

Cameron Poe: Why couldn't you put the bunny back in the box?

Yeah!

Indy Jones is a good choice, but Flash is just goofy - but in a good way.

That's the spirit! Come on everyone, sing it with me:

Flash! ah-ahh!
Savior of the Universe!
Flash! ah-ahh!
He'll save everyone of us!
Flash! ah-ahh!
He's a miracle!
Flash! ah-ahh!
King of the impossible!

:D

That's the point. By doing decent movies Mike has changed the rules. We no longer have crap like Daredevil forced on us, we can have our rifftrax and a good movie at the same time.

I say let the Film Crew do the absolute crap movies, they are more distracting to compensate for it, let Mike and the rifftrax team do movies that are watchable.

Oh man, this was one of the more difficult ones to pick.  Temple of Doom, Commando, Tron, Con-Air, Daredevil...lots of good ones this time around.  I went for Tron.

Temple Of Doom is in the lead? I know this is an endless debate around here... but, i will never understand why people like it when good movies get riffed. I mean, ya' know... that's assuming you agree that Temple Of Doom is a good movie. Which is also debatable, i suppose~

I guess it's the fine line of a movie being good enough that we'll watch the rifftrack but in some way still riffable. I don't have the proper words to express it, but I don't think a rifftrack of a very bad movie will work without full on film crew interaction including skits. In the end all you'd have is a bad movie with a commentary track. The closest example I can think of is when there was MST3K like show that would re-dub classic movies with comedy dialouge, but then it was cut down to 25 minutes so we could tolerate it. Even then it didn't work as well as mst3k because it was lacking something.

It was lacking the MST3K team of writers...

NO! You are not making me watch that thing again! EVER!!! Vote no to Double Dragon! I should never have to see that thing again after already seeing it twice (both times against my will).

Oh, and I voted for Tron. Awesomely riffable.
