Title: I'm starting a project called KidsTrax....
Post by: CartoonDiablo on March 25, 2008, 04:39:30 PM
Ok well I'm not going to pretend to be an expert but was gonna start this new project called KidsTrax which is pretty self explanatory:

you guessed it, basiclly rifftrax with really bad kids movies. I am currently starting with The Adventures of Shark Boy and Lava Girl and hope to move on to other monstrosities.

It isn't related to Rifftrax and is done as an obvious parody but I just wanted your options etc. on the project.

So yeah post questions comments and suggestions for what you want to be "traxed".

Any of the Spy Kids movies would probably be good targets (not entirely sure since I've never been able to sit through one.)

Good idea starting with the Robert Rodriguez kids movies. Several film fans / DVD addicts already own them for the commentaries and should increase peoples willingness to try KidsTrax.

Anyway, look forward to your track, Sharkboy&Lavagirl sucked hard.

What age kids are you talkin here? Whatever your target audience is, you should have kids from that age group as the voice talent. Or you could do whatever you like, it is your idea.

Edit: On my frequent trips to Blockbuster, I keep passing one on the New Release wall called "Thunder Pants". Yeah, that'd be a good one.

What was that stupid Xmen clone with Tim Alan called again?

That would make a good one.

I look forward to seeing your work.

I'm sure the Power Rangers movies would be pretty easy to do.

That's it!

Thanks.

That is one of the worst films ever made.

Only problem I see is that kids movies are pretty much all comedies, which never work well. I think the whole board pretty much agrees on that, right?

The PowerRangers Movie is pretty serious, though, isn't it? Could give that one a try.

Also Pokemon,don't forget Pokemon.

Any Pokemon clone would be good too.

Yeah almost twice as many think there are some and almost as many are on the fence about it.

There are some real dogs out there misrepresenting themselves as comedies.

Well, yeah, there are some exceptions most likely, but in general comedies probably won't work. Sure, a comedy may not be funny, but there's only so many funny ways you can say "that joke wasn't funny". I always think it's way funnier to riff the movies that take themselves deadly serious. Riffing works best when you use the film's own seriousness to increase the comedy. Making light of a serious situation is the basis for a high percentage of good riffs. Those jokes are all pretty much impossible in a comedy.

No I agree with you on that.

I think riffs always turn out much better of movies that take themselves too seriously. A comedy can always fall back on "well it wasn't supposed to be serious" even the crappy, we learned something moral of the comedy. But when a movie really looks at itself as art, timeless, a masterpiece, such as Island of Dr. Moreau, when Thewils was at the dinner table and was attempting to emote disgust and disbelief, but what came across his face was "who is tickling my naughty bits?" That is the nutrient rich topsoil from which Mike Nelson's "The Riffing Tree" grows.

Yeah I was gonna do Zoom but forgot the name of it so thanks for that. Anyways to who ever asked about the "using kids" as riffers thing were only 16 so I guess that'll do for now.
