(What can I say, it seemed easier than opening up a new thread or poll just for this, and I figured that this thread would get way more traffic...)

No, Millennium was a POS that was just tossed out there to cash-grab on the year 2000. Vista, as you know, is Satan's fiery cockhole jamming itself forcibly into places you'd rather it left alone.

Also, you... broke the chain, sir.

So I will begin it anew.

Satan's fiery cockhole or watching every episode of Beast Machines back to back.

Still, woman.

Beast Machines, 'cause that show was awesome

Hot Fuzz or Shoot 'Em Up

Awesome if it wasn't in continuity. And if they'd have cut down on the fortune cookie philosophy crap. And if the designs were better. And if the characters were consistent. And if they didn't dick around with learning to transform.

Aside from that, it was great.

Post by: Tripe on May 01, 2008, 05:17:52 AM
Not sure what you're describing as a Merry-go-round as it can mean a number of different spinny things, but using swing as a reference I'll go with merry-go-round (or a roundabout as I used to call it when I was a nipper) centrifugal force is excellent.

Watching the girls play Field Hockey or Volleyball

The volleyball hot pants can't be underestimated.  Used to wear them, wondering why other sports fields were spared the indignance.  Guess it gets certain fans in the bleachers.

Post by: Tripe on May 12, 2008, 06:56:00 PM
Kevin though Bill's also great.

oh and
Danny Boy....  I don't know the words to the other.....

In Dublin's fair city,
where the girls are so pretty,
I first set my eyes on sweet Molly Malone,
As she wheeled her wheel-barrow,
Through streets broad and narrow,
Crying, "Cockles and mussels, alive, alive, oh!"

"Alive, alive, oh,
Alive, alive, oh",
Crying "Cockles and mussels, alive, alive, oh".

She was a fishmonger,
And sure 'twas no wonder,
For so were her father and mother before,
And they each wheeled their barrow,
Through streets broad and narrow,
Crying, "Cockles and mussels, alive, alive, oh!"

(chorus)

She died of a fever,
And no one could save her,
And that was the end of sweet Molly Malone.
Now her ghost wheels her barrow,
Through streets broad and narrow,
Crying, "Cockles and mussels, alive, alive, oh!"

(chorus)

In that scenario wouldn't you be taking the medicine either way?
That's true, but when I asked it I meant which would you prefer, not what you'd actually be doing.  And I asked it after a long day and a frazzled brain was taking over.... ;)

Check out James Randi's excellent expose on faith healers titled, arbitrarily enough, The Faith Healers. Hinn didn't literally kill anyone, but his actions prevent people who need medical attention from seeking it and can directly lead to serious injury (by standing up and tearing something that's already weakened by illness).

I'm going to side with having 2 left feet. It would open up some new avenues for comedy at work.

Meredeth from The Office. Just for the fact that I wouldn't have to kill her from her constant whining. Plus Meredeth from The Office probably has some alcohol or has the ability to make some out of coconuts and fig leaves.

Speculation or Supply/Demand?

Title: Re: This or That?
Post by: orionpaxxx on July 03, 2008, 08:13:40 AM
Supply/Demand. China has been stockpiling oil for the upcoming Olympics. Its a worldwide market and he have to compete to buy the oil. We have more oil in our country that in Saudi but we cannot drill there. but it would take 5-10 years to reach market. It would help. The specualtion just causes panic but the real reason is supply and demand.

Damn, that's a tough choice! I guess I'll say Guitar solo, because so many drum solos are just without structure or character. The great drummers are all gone now, except for Neal Peart and a couple others. There are still plenty of guitarists out there that can supremely wail.

Which is the longer-lasting, more absolute force in the universe, stasis or change?
Title: Re: This or That?
Post by: orionpaxxx on September 14, 2008, 05:32:18 AM
Stasis. Because once change happens it becomes static until changed again. So the process of change is only a moment then all is static. Only if we were in constant change could it over ride stasis. Besides, no matter which side you are on politically change is nothing more than an outdated slogan.

Tent. Actually when I camp with my father it's in a camper, so that's technically more of a woodsy vacation (which is really all we're aiming for). I'm an all or nothing person, though, so if not that I prefer to pitch a tent.

Well, kinda depends on what you need it for.  But I'm going to go with Webster's, since 99% of the time that'll be enough, and you don't need a magnifying glass or a huge amount of money to own and use it.

Plus, Noah Webster did awesome things like correcting spelling.

Sausage: Patties or links?

He didn't really correct spelling so much as minimise lexical shibboleths.

I prefer the British spelling personally.
Title: Re: This or That?
Post by: Tripe on September 19, 2008, 08:03:15 AM
Yes but neither is really "correct" in of itself, English being fluid and all that.

Objectively Webster removed the shibboleths present in many a British spelling and pronunciation but I'd not go so far as to say that was really correcting anything, rather he was creating a distinctly American formation of English, which in turn influenced British English (nobody, well except me, says wesskit any longer, they say the American wastecoat).

I prefer the British spelling personally.

Prefer it or not, he made the words he changed closer to their original forms (color, honor, etc.).

Bollocks, complete bollocks plain and simple.

Again just because Webster developed one standard of spelling and pronunciation doesn't mean it was the objectively "correct" one. It doesn't matter what the form of the word in the language it was loaned from is (and that means some of those words should only end in ur nor or), it only matters what it became in English.

Johnson used our and he predates Webster by about 75 years. But even then he's not "correcting", he's merely reflecting standards of spelling deemed acceptable.

1)
I prefer the British spelling personally.

Prefer it or not, he made the words he changed closer to their original forms (color, honor, etc.).

I don't understand what you mean by this. I studied linguistics as an undergrad, and I don't this idea. I will admit, that I know no Latin what-so-ever, so If you are concidering the words from their Latin roots (if they are Latin in origin) then maybe.

However, I agree with Tripe because language is quite fluid. From my research, Webster changed the spelling to help Americans identify themselves as their own country away from England.

I would like to end this post by saying, you two are hilarious! You two are (probably) the most educated people on this forum. What is the use of all that education if you two, of all the people on this board, can't be civil with your discussions? What hope can there be for any of us to be civil?

Caesar, a brilliant man(or woman if you were a man ;))/general/politician.

The founder, sort of, of a incredibly significant dynasty

Much more highly though of by those who came after him

Cooler death and ultimately he didn't explode post mortem, which while cool and all, is a tad undignified.

Last time a woman asked me Why the big paw, it ended in a bad situation, so I will go for why the long face.

Dwight.

Turning a theme park ride into  a movie or Turning a movie into a theme park ride?

Theme Park Ride to Movie as that has had at least some modicum of creativity applied to the process in the past. The other way round seems to just give us roller coasters of one form or another.

I don't know much about either.  I looked them up on Wikipedia, and ultimately I'm going to go with Georgiana because her name reminds me of the song "The Devil Went Down to Georgia."  Also, socialites are more historically interesting, in a "Wow, that person knew people" sort of way.

One man, one vote. The electoral College is an unecessary complication to an election process that is already too long and expensive.

Chips or Crisps?
Title: Re: This or That?
Post by: Cibernético II on November 27, 2008, 08:13:19 PM
Wait a second. I'm American. That means if I say "chips" what I mean is potato chips. But you probably mean "French fries". And if I were to select "crisps", that to me would mean some kind of cracker or maybe a cereal perhaps. But you probably mean "potato chips". And if I perferred chips I would select "chips" which you would interpret to be fries. And I just can't let my 'This or That?' post be misunderstood. I cannot!

And why do you call these chips anyway?

They are not chip-shaped at all!

See. THESE are chip-shaped:

They are chips as in poker chips.

If I were to answer honestly, I would have to say NEITHER. Because I have taken fried potato products out of my regular diet. But that would be against the spirit of 'This or That' so I will begrudgingly choose... chips (the long, square things that are served hot)
