Title: Rob Zombie or White Zombie?
Post by: Renny on February 24, 2008, 02:15:08 PM
Which do you prefer ('course, you could hate both)? I think I like more songs by Rob in his White Zombie days, but I still like plenty of his solo stuff, and I respect most everything he's done (yes, House of 1000 Corpses and Halloween 2007 aren't that bad, now flame away) It's just that I think there's a greater number of good, solid grunge-funk-metal singles on the White Zombie albums.

I'm more into his solo stuff but thats probably because I was introduced to his solo stuff first. I'm a bit of an old fogie lol  ;D

I can go with both, but it seems to me he went a little more hardcore with the cheesy horror movie-like motif when he went solo.  It was always there, but after the White Zombie days it seemed the volume got turned up a bit on it, and I dug that.

Clearly this should have been a poll.

And clearly, White Zombie is better.

QFT. Both are good, of course, but White Zombie by a landslide.
Title: Rob Zombie Was White Zombie!
Post by: Rude on February 25, 2008, 07:00:01 PM
...

I've seen both live... a coupla' times. And i have to say that White Zombie put on an amazing, over-the-top show that i will never forget. It was a spectacle of horror films, anime, B-movies, fire, robots and go-go girls. Rob Zombie's shows since then... not so much.

Except for Educated Horses, most of Rob's solo material has sounded pretty derivative of that last Zombie album. To tell ya' the truth though... if i didn't know that he had gone solo, i could barely have told the difference. The only obvious thing was the lack of a solid guitar presence. He went a little overboard playing more of a DJ on some of those tracks.

Anyway, throw my vote in for White Zombie.

Clearly, his best stuff was when he was one of the Pips.

No contest, White Zombie all the way.

I never got to see White Zombie live but the few shows I've gone to with him solo were a lot of fun.  I didn't care for Educated Horses so I guess I'll vote for White Zombie.  My favorite song of his/theirs is The Great American Nightmare from the Private Parts soundtrack.

Was there any public reason Rob Zombie went solo? To me it seemed that Rob Zombie wanted to call all the shots and not have to worry about having a band and just got some guys to be robot players (except for Tempesta I guess).

I got the impression that he was pretty much calling all the shots since he first started playing music (way back in the 80's I learned, White Zombie had two, maybe three full-length independent albums before they broke mainstream) He wrote all the songs, designed the visual theme of the band, everything except actually composing the music singlehandedly; I'm sure he takes imput from his band members in that area. So, it was probably a case of him and the band being tired of pretending to be a fully collaborative unit when it was clearly Rob's creation, so now he's unequivically ROB ZOMBIE (and backup band)

I do agree that he's going overboard on the electro-dance thing; good lord, maybe he's not that far away from doing a duet with 50 Cent or something

Yeah I have never been able to find the first album Soul-Crusher. Only on LP i believe. I do have a copy of their second album Make Them Die Slowly.

That horrible remix of Brickhouse featuring Lionel Richie & Trina was close enough for me. Blah.

I actually had Soul-Crusher on cassette a long time ago. At the time, i thought it was so horrible that i actually covered up the tabs and taped over it. Kinda' wish that i hadn't done that now...

Make them Die Slowly isn't all that good either. There is a reason why they are so out of print. At least by the second album he adopted the Rob Zombie moniker instead of Rob Dirt Straker.

White Zombie, for sure. Although I did enjoy Hellbilly Deluxe immensly. The more Zombie gets involved with other things, though, the less impressive his music gets, IMO. I wish he'd shelve this whole directing business and get back to doing what he does best.
