Title: Dune Fan-Riff Thread
Post by: bettertomorrowamy on February 03, 2008, 05:33:14 PM
Our mission:  Develop a script slowly over months that will, when completed, impress the rulers of the Riff Raff Theatre so much that they will record it sonically.  Or we may just record it ourselves with the help of Raven.

To qualify as a contributor to this project you must follow Chaos' scripting rules which are here:

Huh. Yeah. I don't know about that. I want assurance that it will be recorded first. Otherwise, I would just riff my whole DVD collection right now. I already do to many things that end up being pointless.

as I mentioned on the other thread (before I saw this one) i have a friend who works with recording stuff. My bro might be able to help too. So it will get recorded at some point in time.

extended or regular edition?

Extended.

according to netflix, the extended sucks arse.

according to netflix, the extended sucks arse.

It sucks less ass than the theatrical, though it is 3 hours long...  That's a lot of riffing.

The only extra suck is the new pointless narrator guy, but he's much more riffable.

the people on netflix say that it sucks more arse--making it a gay porno apparantly. I think RVR should pick. This is his dream project

Here I am... Super Bowl distracted me..  :speechless:

Pick? How bout the Theatrical version for less suffering (and the possible choice of the 3 for riffing)

Post by: bettertomorrowamy on February 03, 2008, 06:58:25 PM
It's up to RVR what version we do.  I have the extended edition at home.  This is really his baby.

So I'm on board, RVR is on board, Anais is on board, who else?

Title: Re: Dune Fan-Riff Thread
Post by: bratpop on February 03, 2008, 06:59:33 PM
The people on netflix are idiots. They didn't release the extended version on DVD because galleons of fans demanded that it sucked.

Ok.  Really I'd just like to make sure it is possible to do this movie.  But as we mentioned in that other thread, this is a multiple month project cuz RVR is a busy man.

So yeah first which version does everybody want to agree on doing??

No, I just can't get interested in that book.  Besides nobody but you complained, which was odd.  Sorry about that.

This is for realz though.  I wrote for the Tron riff, and the batman riff.  So I have riffing credentials.  I'm serious about doing this.

Let's just riff the theatrical then.  That will be a little less taxing anyway.

This doesn't have to be finished until late April right RVR?
Title: Re: Dune Fan-Riff Thread
Post by: bratpop on February 03, 2008, 07:13:07 PM
But really though, at least the extended cuts out the Lynchian grossness like spitting, heart plugs... the Baron's Jell-O wrestling scene. Plus, Gurney's rendition of "Smoke on the Water" alone is worth the price of admission.
Title: Re: Dune Fan-Riff Thread

so the reg has jello wrestling and the extended as smoke on the water?

Come on, I just really want to riff that narrator guy. Besides, if you do the regular version, you'll always wonder what the extra forty minutes of riffs would have been. Personally I don't bother watching the regular version anymore, so I'd only be watching it for the riff. I honestly find it hard to watch anything theatrical I've seen an extended version of. Like that damn Harry Potter and the not-shown-on-DVD scenes that they show on TV and that you have to go through a maze to find on the extra disc. The scenes alone aren't worth looking for, but they make the movie better when they're in.

Oh Yeah, I agree. All I watch now is the extended version as well.
I'm just thinking about if Mike, Kev, and Bill take this on, which version would they most likely do and it'd probably be the theatrical version
Title: Re: Dune Fan-Riff Thread
Post by: bratpop on February 03, 2008, 07:29:12 PM
Yes, they're sooper lazy, they would probably do the short version. Although it's still likely they will never do it at all. It's so hard to make Dick Cheney jokes in a movie from 1984.

I remember when they did ID4 (Independence Day), they did the theatrical version because it was available more so than the extended version
Title: Re: Dune Fan-Riff Thread
Post by: anais.jude on February 03, 2008, 07:44:14 PM
we can always do a super deluxe riff later if this goes well
Title: Re: Dune Fan-Riff Thread
Post by: bratpop on February 03, 2008, 07:45:52 PM
Wow, that'd be tough to edit though.

I figured since the extended version is on the same disc as the theatrical version and that is the current release and I've never even seen an older release, the availability wouldn't be in question.
Title: Re: Dune Fan-Riff Thread
Post by: bettertomorrowamy on February 03, 2008, 07:46:33 PM
Netflix has both versions, so I don't know what he was talking about.

So which one?  RVR pick one so we can move on.

I also vote theatrical, and, if we're talking months here, I'll be submitting some kind of riff for it whether we (RRT) collectively decide we can record it or not. (If not I will at least force Todd to do a few voices from the film.)

Hey Yeah! Much like the re-Riff of Plan 9.. We could add more to the extended version later
Oh wait.. that would throw off the riff timings quite a bit though, or is there some way to resync the script for the extended version later?

Lets stick with theatrical version for now with a possible re-rff for the extended version later.

Netflix must be some tricky bastards then since it's only been released on the flip side of the theatrical version. What do they do, spray paint the other side?

My original DUNE DVD disc is a flip-flop; theatrical on 1 side, and the Extended version on the other.

Well...whatever you guys are calling yourself, i'm game.  I'll even help you guys out and give you folks the timecode srt for Dune.  This will hopefully make the job of editing and compiling the riffs a lot more easier.

Rip the Dune DVD with DVDDecrypter  in IFOmode, and just select the video and one of the audio choices, which ever is your preference, and make sure to demux everything.(Dont' worry...we don't have to mix any audio).

 Dune.srt (http://www.divshare.com/download/3695251-8a5)

Just use this in Subtitle Creator, and set the font size to at least 30-point, and if you can, set the position to the upper-left hand side. Then open up Rejig or IFOedit, load the Video, Audio, and the .sub we created, and complie to a DVD folder.

Now you should be all set.  Use DVD SHrink or ImgBurn to burn a dvd, and PRESTO!!...you've got a dvd with the subtitle track of the time codes constantly on the screen.  this should make sure everyone has the correct sync on their scripts.

Or with cups of water?

(Damn you M. Night.  Damn you for pissing away a good movie with at ridiculous alien vulnerability)

Why don't we worry about getting the script done and make sure it is funny to us, then we run it by Chris and Chaos and those guys and see if they like it or not.  If they say no and we don't agree with them, we could record it ourselves.

First things first though.  I would really like to give them something that they could roll with.  Then they could polish our turd into a diamond and record it for us.  Why have different groups recording things?  If we have good performers like what they already have at Riff Raff, why not give them our funny to do with what they want.

I'm actually going to work on few jokes tonight for Dune.  Everybody else do the same.  Anything anyone is specifically proud about can send it to me or RVR, but we probably shouldn't put our jokes on the forum cuz it would ruin the finished product.  I like this rule that Chris has.  You can pm your funny jokes to each other, but just don't post them on the forum.

It's a stand-alone.  Skully's dad dies, and she sees his ghost.  Doriff says he can allow her dad's spirit to inhabit his body so he can talk to her.

Already did, like maybe last month, it's all Jane Austin at the mo (which I like but it can leave others cold).

But it's weird, she looms out of a swirling red mist with longer hair than I've ever seen on her and a sort of defocused expression. It's perhaps intended to evoke the Greek Chorus or something.

Well after giving Dune a viewing a few weeks back I gotta say the movie was a bit to slow for me. I'd much rather write jokes for a 'slam dunk' type movie like Batman and Robin, Armagedon, etcetera ... this movie would probably steal my soul if I try to contribute. For now, I can't bring myself to help out the fan riff... hopefully I get inspired to write something but probably count me out.

OK.. After a full 36 hour time span of devotion (Saturday night and all day today - Sunday), I Still have about 30 minutes of the movie to go to complete the writing part of my script..
I've got a SH*T Load of pages written currently, so I'll probably start typing it up tomorrow during the day and go back to the writing part in the evenings and continue this process all week or until completion. *WHEW*
With 1 week to go before my vacation, I'm confident I'll have a Completed movie fan riff script ready for submission by next weekend :highfive:

That's why it will take two riffers.  So the other guy can breath while the first guy is talking.

I sent my finished script to BTA.  I've been trying to keep the nearby river out of our basement at work for the last 8 days straight but I finally got it done.

I'm gonna start working on combining our three scripts this weekend.  Then I'll ask for jokes for specific sections.
Should be fun watching Dune over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.

not to undermine your efforts but do we really need this I mean this movie not only got officially riffed but we had the forum guys rif on it even though Riff Raff took pretty much all the credit.

It's like me writing a riff script
submitting it to Rifftrax
having them actually do it
then having to do it all over again.

Other then that you have a pretty nice script going.

Are you on drugs?  I can't tell what movie you are talking about.  The forum wrote and produced a riff of the first Harry Potter and it was also an official release.  Batman & Robin was written by 50 some people, turned into a script by the Riff Raff guys and turned into an official riff.  But this thread is for         D U N E which so far has only been riffed by me, RVR II and bettertomorrowamy, as far as I can tell.  And I'm pretty sure we haven't released a script for anyone to see so I repeat, Are you on drugs?
